Pelosi: Impeachment is off the table (2005)

That was Speaker Pelosi in 2005 after British newspapers broke the story on the Downing Street Memos that showed a conspiracy between PM Tony Blair and President George W. Bush to invade Iraq under false pretenses.

Hundreds of thousands died. Millions became displaced as war refugees. If a war based on lies was not enough reason to impeach Bush, I hold little hope that Trump will be impeached on lesser grounds.

Let’s Go to the Memo
What’s really in the Downing Street memos?

Is there anything important in the Downing Street memo? This is the now-notorious secret transcript of a British ministerial meeting on July 23, 2002—obtained and published by the Sunday Times of London just this past May Day—which seems to suggest that, nine months before the war in Iraq got started, the Bush administration a) knew Saddam Hussein didn’t pose a threat; b) decided to overthrow him by force anyway; and c) was “fixing” intelligence to sell the impending invasion to a duped American public.

It is very misleading. Suggest just adding the date in parenthesis, e.g., (2005)

CURRENTLY, she says impeachment is NOT off the table.

Just my opinion, but this comes across as clickbait.

Pelosi should have allowed Impeachment hearings on the Iraq War. Thousands of Americans died in that conflict, a war of choice by Bush and Cheney.

This time Pelosi is trying to temper a rush to Impeachment, and for very good reasons. It is late in the legislative calendar. Increasing the debt limit and the need to pass a budget by October 1rst is going to take a lot of time.

The Senate won’t convict Trump even if he were to shoot someone dead on Fifth Avenue. We would be at the start of primary season by the time Articles of Impeachment make it to the Senate.

I want Trump impeached, but I also don’t want actions by the House to backfire and give Trump an issue to run on.

She lays it all out there. They are building a case and will impeach before 2020.

and didn't not take over the house until January 2007 so they could not have impeached Bush in 2005 even if they wanted to.
