Rand Paul’s Russian Connection
Paul names controversial Kremlin expert foreign policy adviser
BY: Alana Goodman Follow @alanagoodman
August 20, 2014 9:59 am

Dimitri K. Simes (born Dmitry Kostantinovich Simis, Russian: Дмитрий Константинович Симис )

Sen. Rand Paul (R., Ky.) has named as one of his key foreign policy advisers a controversial Russia policy expert with deep ties to the Kremlin.

Dimitri Simes, the president of the Center for the National Interest, and Ambassador Richard Burt, a member of the Center’s board of directors, are recent additions to Paul’s foreign policy advisory team, the senator told National Journal earlier this year.

For years, Simes and the center have provided a sympathetic platform for the Russian government in the heart of the D.C. policy establishment. Its ties to Moscow extend throughout the organization.

The advisory council of the National Interest, the center’s chief publication, includes Alexey Pushkov, a Russian Duma official recently targeted for sanctions by the U.S. government in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Pushkov has come under fire for claiming that the Bush administration orchestrated the September 11 attacks and for blaming the 2013 Navy Yard shooting on "American exceptionalism."

A former aide to Richard Nixon, Simes is publisher of the National Interest, a hotbed of "realist" foreign policy thinking that boasts Henry Kissinger as its honorary chairman.

Simes’ views and connections are widely known in Russia policy circles. Last September, days after Vladimir Putin published a column in the New York Times denouncing American exceptionalism, Simes joined the Russian president on stage at the Valdai International Discussion Club forum in Russia for a televised panel discussion.

Flanked by three other panelists—Germany’s former defense minister and France and Italy’s former prime ministers—Simes seemed out of place at the high-ranking, Kremlin-sponsored forum.

"No one directly addresses Putin at Dimitri Simes’ level," noted one Washington-based Russia policy expert. "It just doesn’t happen."

15. Unrolling the thread
Sun Jun 2, 2019, 12:27 PM
Jun 2019

so non-Twitter readers can participate:

1/ POST-MUELLER INVESTIGATION #1, per the NYT: "Investigators are still examining the campaign contacts of an Israeli specialist in social media manipulation who has worked for Prince Mohammed [bin Zayed of the UAE]."

(NB: I'll list the three investigations, then explain them.)
2/ POST-MUELLER INVESTIGATION #2, per the NYT: "Investigators are still examining...a Lebanese-American businessman [George Nader] who acted as [a pre-election] emissary [for Mohammed bin Zayed of the UAE, also known as "MBZ"].
3/ POST-MUELLER INVESTIGATION #3, per the NYT: "Prosecutors are investigating whether another top Republican donor whose security company worked for the prince [Elliot Broidy, named RNC deputy finance chair post-election by Trump] should legally have registered as [MBZ's] agent."
4/ (The NEW YORK TIMES has also implied that a *fourth* investigation is ongoing—but because the reference to it mentions the "special counsel," I've held off on saying that the TIMES is "officially" reporting it as ongoing. In the next tweet I'll summarize its contours, though.)
5/ POST-MUELLER INVESTIGATION #4, per the NYT (see prior tweet for note): "[Prosecutors] also questioned Rashid al-Malik, an Emirati real-estate developer close to MBZ and...the head of Emirati intelligence. Mr. al-Malik is also close to Mr. Trump’s friend Tom Barrack... (cont.)
6/ ...and investigators are asking whether al-Malik was part of an illegal [UAE] influence scheme, according to two people familiar with the matter." From PROOF OF CONSPIRACY research, I know the key al-Malik intel involves pre-election contact with Barrack—and possibly Manafort.
7/ Those who read this feed know that I've long been saying—and saying, too, that those most fully "in the know" are saying—that the pre-election crimes most likely to implicate Trump and his family involve bribery and aiding and abetting, and *not just Russia* but other nations.
8/ The Mueller Report is a must-read for every American, despite being long and complex. Once you've read it—and this is the hard part—you have to understand that, for all the terrible stuff you just read, it's only a narrow window on a much larger story still being investigated.
9/ The MIDDLE EAST EYE is a London-based British media outlet run by a longtime editor at THE GUARDIAN—one of the most respected media outlets in the United Kingdom. 15 months ago it broke harrowing news of a multinational conspiracy to elect Donald Trump.
EXCLUSIVE: The secret yacht summit that realigned the Middle East | Middle East Eye
Arab leaders from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Jordan plotted to counter Turkey and Iran, and replace the GCC and Arab League
https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/exclusive-secret-yacht-summit-realigned-middle-east
10/ Beginning then—in March 2018—journalists around the world began investigating this conspiracy. I know not just because I've written a book about the "Red Sea Conspiracy," but because major-media journalists from all over have contacted me to say they're working on this, too.
11/ There are 3 reasons you've heard little about this:

1) The best reporting on it is in foreign media.
2) Our media consistently "buries the lede" in reporting on the story—as it considers America not ready for it.
3) The story is so complex it's taken over a year to research.
12/ I'll now tell you the basic facts of the story that has emerged:

1) Six nations hatched a plot to elect Trump. The plot was hatched in 2015; the nations involved were Russia, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt. The leaders of these countries were all involved.
13/

2) Three of these six nations—Russia, Israel, the UAE—had infiltrated deep into the Trump campaign by March 2016: Russia through Dimitri Simes; the UAE through Yousef al-Otaiba; Israel through Kushner, Groner, and Birnbaum. The campaign understood the plan these nations had.
14/

3) The plan was simple: historic detentes between the US and Russia and the Sunni Arab Gulf states and Israel; the US drops all sanctions on Russia and Russia agrees to withdraw support for Iran, thus clearing a path for a new Arab-Israeli alliance to remake the Middle East.
15/

4) The Trump campaign became aware of the plan via *many* interlocutors: Kushner; Flynn; Nader; Manafort; al-Otaiba; Simes; Birnbaum; Barrack; others. The plan was seen as a "grand bargain" and sometimes called that—other times it was called "the Middle East Marshall Plan."
16/

5) Russia began operations in what would become the plot (through the GRU and IRA) in 2014, at a time it was in a *massive* new joint investment program with the UAE and there were regular high-level Moscow/Abu Dhabi contacts. The UAE and Russia knew Trump would run by 2013.
17/

6) By March 2016, Russia had become the first nation with a "man in"—Dimitri Simes. (Though you could argue Kushner saw himself as an unofficial agent of Israel prior to that). By April 2016, Israel had a "man in"—via Birnbaum. By May 2017, UAE had a "man in"—with al-Otaiba.
18/

7) Saudi Arabia (whose leader, MBS, is a mentee of the UAE's MBZ); Egypt (whose leader, el-Sisi, is in power because of the UAE's MBZ); and Bahrain (whose leader is basically along for the ride), did not *need* their own agents, as they effectively were using the Emiratis'.
18/

7) The conspirators spent March through July trying to get access directly to the Trumps, though Jared Kushner was conspiring with Simes, al-Otaiba, and Netanyahu's office by late spring. On August 3, 2016, agents of Israel, Russia, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia got to Trump Jr.
19/

8) At that August 3 Trump Tower meeting, both the family and campaign were represented: the family via Don Jr., the campaign via Trump's chief domestic policy adviser, Stephen Miller.

Four nations offered the Trump campaign illegal pre-election assistance; Don Jr. said yes.
20/ I've given you the most basic contours. The full story (at least as I've written it) takes 500 pages and 3,500+ endnotes. It can't be relayed on Twitter. But it is fully sourced, and sourced with the top media outlets in the world (particularly in the US, the UK, and Israel).
PS/ Many may wonder, "What's the connection between the Mueller Report and this?" The answer: Mueller's report is a prequel, following 2 of 7 characters—the US and Russia—in what was, in the event, a full five-act play. It's the TALES OF BEEDLE THE BARD to Rowling's HARRY POTTER.

INVESTIGATION #1: Israeli intel expert Joel Zamel offering illegal pre-election aid to Trump's campaign.
INVESTIGATION #2: UAE/Saudi agent George Nader repeatedly meeting the Trump team secretly in last 90 days of campaign.
INVESTIGATION #3: UAE agent Broidy bribing Trump.

PS2/ I'm *not* one of those who thinks Pelosi is "waiting" for all this to come out—I tend *not* to ascribe much long-range strategic thinking to most politicians. But I'll say that the case for impeachment will be *much* stronger once this evidence is fully in the public record.

working the exact same material for the same bosses

stone, corsi, credico, hannity in the mueller report were primarily radio related. stone used it in 2000 to stop recounts in fla. wiki was part of the russsia hack operation that limbaugh turned into 'climategate' in 2009 to stop obama on climate. stone was part of the team sstudying "1000s of hiurs of talk radio" for trump (and the russians?) in 2014, the same year a russian troll ssaid they "got a list of topics to write about".

most of the soc media that worked piggybacked established talk radio memes. anyone anywhere can call a local show or get the blowhard to read their emails to tens even hundreds of thousands.

most of these countries' dictators had to deal with 'voice of america' radio selling democracy in their countries - foreigners know the value of radio, while modern democrats ignore it.

a company like sopnx.ai can transcribe radio fast and very well for $5/hr with AI and it's fucking irresponsible and negligent for the dem party not to be monitoring talk radio

Even on DU some were castigated for saying anything slightly untoward about Israel.

This is some scary stuff going on. Clearly they knew trump was so stupid he'd do whatever they wanted once elected, but that Hillary wouldn't.

the obstruction took place.

This is why the GOP HOPES we impeach only on obstruction because if this comes out in a credible way Trump goes down quickly and much of the gop with him.

this is why the gang of eight were concerned after getting an fbi briefing

this is why Trump said he's 'f*cked' and his presidency is 'over' when Mueller was hired

This is why the republican judge hearing the flynn case was outraged at the level of conspiracy and wants the Flynn transcripts released

this is why Steele and McCain thought the dossier was so serious that it couldn't stay hidden

Consider the combined political, cultural and military power and the combined assets/natural resources (as well as a combined GDP of nearly $9-trillion) of these six nations - Russia, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt.

Perhaps it's no small wonder all GOP politicians behave as if they are mysteriously silenced and compromised....

This is informative but doesn't explicitly address what we're just finding out.

A 2016 study by Dov H. Levin found that, among 938 global elections examined,[a] the United States and Russia (including its predecessor, the Soviet Union) combined had involved themselves in about one out of nine (117), with the majority of those (68%) being through covert, rather than overt, actions.

The same study found that "on average, an electoral intervention in favor of one side contesting the election will increase its vote share by about 3 percent," an effect large enough to have potentially changed the results in seven out of 14 U.S. presidential elections occurring after 1960.[3][c]

According to the study, the U.S. intervened in 81 foreign elections between 1946 and 2000, while the Soviet Union or Russia intervened in 36.[3] A 2018 study by Levin found that the electoral interventions determined in "many cases" the identity of the winner.[9] The study also found suggestive evidence that the interventions increased the risk of democratic breakdown in the targeted states.[9]

90. Pompeo, Kushner visit Bilderberg Group event as US Iran policies raise concerns
Sun Jun 2, 2019, 04:40 PM
Jun 2019

<snip>

"US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Saturday joined Jared Kushner at a closed-doors meeting of the Bilderberg Group in the Swiss resort of Montreux, with many attendees uneasy about what one protester called the “wrecking ball” that President Donald Trump’s administration has taken to the postwar international order.

The annual gathering of high-profile participants from business, politics, intelligence and defense saw a visit from America’s top diplomat just as freshly-announced Trump tariffs on Mexico rattled world markets and US tensions with Iran raised world concerns."

<snip>

"In addition to Kushner and Pompeo, both of whom are currently on major diplomatic missions, at least two senior Pentagon officials and two senior members of the National Security Council were at the forum.

Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, arrived from Tel Aviv after a three-nation Middle East tour aimed at building support for his yet unreleased Israeli-Palestinian peace plan."

Lots of old-timey sayings. But they all sort of apply now.

Rumor has it, we may have influenced an election or two ourselves (for the good, of course).

I'm having a hard time being super shocked or outraged that other countries would do their best to influence ours....Even our "allies".

Of course, I'd prefer they influence our elections in a way that I would prefer, but I haven't been granted that luxury.

China wants Iran as a SCO member.

Eventually most of the oil producing ME countries will be Chinese-occupied or under the Chinese sphere of influence.

Russia takes a definite back seat to Chinese. The Russians are the attack dog of the Sino-Russian alliance (SCO). If the Chinese wanted Siberia, it would be a cake walk for them and the Russians know it.

supporters of a candidate who lost in Democratic primaries who either voted directly for trump or indirectly by staying home, voting 3rd Party or writing in another candidate in the general. Comey is also a major factor.

The esteemed investigator Mueller said 21 times that his office "did not identify evidence" that the trump campaign colluded, conspired, etc., with the Ruskies. He even said this about the polling data that was "shared" with the Ruskies:

"Because of questions about Manafort' s credibility and our limited ability to gather evidence on what happened to the polling data after it was sent to Kilimnik, the Office could not assess what Kilimnik (or others he may have given it to) did with it. The Office did not identify evidence of a connection between Manafort's sharing polling data and Russia's interference in the election, which had already been reported by U.S. media outlets at the time of the August 2 meeting. The investigation did not establish that Manafort otherwise coordinated with the Russian government on its election-interference efforts."

Another investigation, prompted by a whistle-blower, is examining the possibility that the United Arab Emirates used cyberespionage techniques from former American operatives to spy on American citizens.

Yet the prince’s courtship of the Trump administration has not been damaged. In the two and a half years since his first meeting with Mr. Kushner, Prince Mohammed has received almost everything he sought from the White House.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly backed the positions of the Emirati prince: by endorsing his Saudi protégé after the Khashoggi killing, by applauding the isolation of Qatar even as the secretary of state and secretary of defense publicly opposed it, by canceling the nuclear deal with Iran, by seeking to designate the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group, and by vetoing legislation to cut off American military support for Saudi and Emirati forces in Yemen.

In April, Mr. Trump publicly endorsed the Emiratis’ favored militia leader in Libya one day after a phone call with Prince Mohammed — even through Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had previously urged the same leader to retreat.

And good to know he is not making things up. Per se.

Writers at The New Republic, The Atlantic, and Deadspin have described Abramson as a conspiracy theorist, while Ben Mathis-Lilley of Slate argues that Abramson is "not making things up, per se; he's just recycling information you could find on any news site and adding sinister what-if hypotheticals

According to a review in the Herald, "Amassed theories and suggestive juxtapositions notwithstanding, we end up with something closer to the Scottish 'not proven' verdict with its unique mix of moral conviction of guilt and inability to conclusively prove the case."
