Are Democratic Socialists Democrats?

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the General Discussion forum).

My experience with Democratic Socialists is that many are not positive or supportive of the Democratic Party and many of its candidates.

So I'm wondering: Are Democratic Socialists Democrats at all?

Said they were realistic and they typically support the most progressive within the Democratic Party. They are not like the Greens.

The Party would be smart to embrace both wings not just centrists and that includes progressives of all stripes.

or self-identify as Democrats are. Those who haven't aren't.

There's certainly some overlap, but the two groups are not mutually inclusive.

If they're registered as Democrats they are, but nothing to do with democratic socialism.

This ideology has nothing to do with our Democratic Party, per se, any more than it does with the Democratic Republic of the Congo or the now-defunct Party of Democratic Socialism in Germany.

There is a private group called Democratic Socialists of America, but it's not a political party.

I haven't found that to be true. That said, I do understand at some core level, that when most progressives talk about sweeping changes that sound a lot like socialism, they are speaking in broad concepts that focus on uplifting and improving the lives, equality and opportunities available to the little guy.

These "socialist" folks envision a government that is uncorrupted by corporate bribery and wealthy perks, a government that works FOR the common man first and foremost, as we were promised at the founding.

I don't judge that to be a bad thing, or an alien concept that would be counter to the rights and obligations provided under our Constitution.

Publicans say all Democrats are Socialist/Commies.

So, I'm going to say they are Democrats.
