before I show them mine.
How do I know they really work for the Board of Elections?

(85,373 posts)but in Michigan every poll worker is issued a photo id and must wear it while on duty.
It is distinctive and changes for each election.
Similarly, should there be a poll watcher or a challenger, they also have state-issued ids. Even though they don't work for the state, they have to be identified to have the right to perform their self-appointed tasks.

(39,215 posts)be okay anyhow as several of the people working the precinct know me. I would throw a fit if I did not get to vote.

But you're right. Keep fighting.

(39,215 posts)I am one of the fortunate homeless though - I have a bed on a couch in the corner of one of my daughter's homes. And most of the things I had are stored in her garage.

(36,418 posts)Most are really nice, civic-minded people who do this because they want to help you vote. Most of them do not like to ask you for an ID any more than you like having to show them one. Go after the Repug State legislators who passed these anti-voting laws.
It's a long day and low wages for them, and the setting up and closing out the polls are surprisingly complex. Don't make their work any harder than it already is.

(1,022 posts)My Mom worked the polls for at least 20 years. It was a very long day for a little old lady, but she viewed it as a civic responsibility. The first election she missed was the day she died.
Poll workers in PA are either elected or appointed by both parties. During the PA Primary, the poll worker to whom I showed by driver's license was a woman who campaigned tirelessly for Obama in '08, phonebanking with my husband and participating in GOTV efforts for Obama at Murphy's headquarters. When I handed her my photo ID, we both rolled our eyes.

It doesn't seem cool to me to hassle your neighbors just to make a point.

(3,249 posts).... what are you going to do? Not vote?
This seems pointless other than to hassle the volunteers.

(82,333 posts)It can be hashed out later.
This county is heavily republican.

(1,453 posts)I went to vote in a primary a while back, and they didn't ask to see
mine...probably because I'm white. It pissed me off, so I whipped out
my DL and made everyone who handled any of my paperwork look at it.
