Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (CNN)A Boston Red Sox plane has picked up legendary slugger David Ortiz from the Dominican Republic and is flying him to Boston, said Sam Kennedy, the team's president and CEO.

Ortiz, 43, left the hospital, the Clinica Abel Gonzalez, in an ambulance Monday. Ortiz will be taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, Kennedy said.
Ortiz was shot in the back Sunday night and "the bullet went through his stomach," Felix Durán Mejia, a spokesman for the national police, told CNN. Kennedy said Ortiz's condition is serious, but he's stable enough to be flown.

with all sorts of sterilizing agents a gazillion times; this was not the surgeons first rodeo.

That being said, the dangers of infection still remain.

Though Tufts has my heart in Boston. They saved my nephews life along with Boston Med Flight. He was DOA when they picked him up.

Ortiz is a fighter and he is in good hands. This is heartbreaking. He is such a good man.

from the very first day they’re added to a team, even if they never play a single game. And after just 43 days on a team they’re fully vested into a lifetime pension that pays quite handsomely.

On DU you learn something every day or you’re inspired to go find something out. Either way I love this goofy little dump.

He is not a medical professional of any kind. It's unlikely that he has had much training in human anatomy. He also may be engaging in denial and/or wishful thinking. Why would you expect what he says about his son's injuries and his condition to be medically accurate?

Media seems to reporting the same and it is bullshit. Why is this not being reported accurately. I got my info from a 45 year ICU nursing professional.
