Over the many years I have posted here.. I usually try to post what we can do in the positive.. fear shuts people down..but sometimes we just have to understand there are some things to be very afraid of.. and Trumpism is one of those things.. People walking into the Trump rally today are throwing white powers signs.. we tuned into the rally for a few minutes and if you had taken the color out of the picture so that it was sepia or black and white, and changed the language to German or Italian.. you could swear you were looking at something out of the 30's.. those movements from Mussolini to Hitler to Stalin started in a perverted form of populism we see in Trumpism, Brexit etc.. This is a time to work hard and pull together.. If he wins again.. we are truly in the deep stuff.. and it will be that much darker than it is now..

(58,785 posts)authoritarians, white nationalist authoritarians, and RW ultrawealthy actors for whom democracy is both a troublesome insult and existential threat. With lots of overlap uniting them.
Our intelligence services say Russia is working to unite RW populists and others with LW populists to form a majority that can take our nation down. No surprise. I've been watching for it for some time now since this is how it's most often done.
In any case, absolutely agree focusing on the concerned right who don't like what's happening. We must build our majority and eat into their turnout. Just look what only half of 2016's LW dissidents/populists voting directly for Trump did last time. And, btw, just look at the passion of the attacks on Biden for talking that way. Who all are amplifying THAT and blasting it around?

Humans experience fear for good reason. It is itself a survival tactic.
IMO, complacency is more of a danger.

There are way more of us than there are of his supporters, but if enough of us get cowed into giving up, he'll get close enough to steal another election. Don't let that happen.

(260 posts)Legendary journalist Carol Simpson had actually suggested this, saying that maybe the media and journalist should get together and boycott interviewing Trump, but Katy Tur said we couldn't do that. I thought, why not? As much as Trump belittles the press/media, that would kill him if he couldn't get much air time. I'm afraid that if the media continues to focus on him, that this may help him in 2020.

(8,964 posts)We need to finish the job in 2020. Deplorables as we have come to understand them have always existed throughout history and they are not going away. The self-absorbed and deranged con artist thats speaks to their worst impulses does not represent a majority of citizens. The majority needs to get and and vote, and elect a president and Congress that will begin to put this sad chapter behind us.

(4,341 posts)I believe the cheating that will go on during 2020 elections will be something we have never seen before. Any idea why Republicans have not been legislating at all? They have been working on other things like how they are going to collude, how they are going to cheat during 2020, and if impeachment does not happen then I fear the cheating will put the creature back in power.
I am hoping that Democrats are working on ways to prevent the cheating, and that they are not telling anyone about it, but that is my fear, he and Barr MUST BE IMPEACHED!

(9,090 posts)ignoring it
this didn't happen because of money, or cycles, or astrology - it's about 1500 coordinated radio stations baking 40 states with 80 senators while democrats and left ignored it and blamed fox and money and voter suppression, etc - all symptoms of ignoring republican talk radio for 30 years
if democrats want to do something stop ignoring what your local radio blowhards are selling in your community, and stop letting your state universities support it with sports broadcasts

(22,252 posts)is donate the money to get more progressives on the radio. Steal the sponsors from the RW drivel masters.
If they had funded Air America instead of some candidates, it might have stayed on the air.
They can also donate generously to FSTV and keep them on the air. The current pledge drive is not doing well, and I have no $$ left to give

(9,090 posts)allows the con/corporate/authoritarian think tanks (and maybe in russia) to use sheer unchallenged repetition and volume to short circuit the feedback mechanisms a democracy needs to function
and it's a 20-1 protected monopoly so it's mom and pop vs wall mart
the dem party and progressive orgs owe it to their donors to stop wasting resources playing catch up to rw radio - they need to stop ignoring it and destroy the monopoly with boycotts and protests. they don't even poll for it.
anyway the business model sucks - the right doesn't mind low profits and even losses if they make trillions in tax breaks, deregulation, global warming denial, etc so analysis would show most of it's not worth it

(4 posts)planned to steal 2016, whether t* was the nominee or not. I base this on mitch's blocking of, not only garland, but more than 140 fed judicial positions. I am willing to bet that rethugs were in bed with the russians, even then.
Since nothing has been done about putin/voter suppression, we could very well wake up to another stolen election. What bothers me is that we are seeing a ret of the purists...this is not a time for that nonsense. The republic is in dire straits, and we need every vote

(6,535 posts)They're practically just publicly announcing it at this point, that that is what they're going to do.
I don't know how anyone can think any of this is "business as usual" in any way, shape or form.
And yeah, I don't think it mattered who the candidate was in 2016, and won't matter if for whatever reason it's not the Walking Orange Ballsack of Doom, but that whakjob Pence instead, or whoever else really in 2020, they'll do whatever they can to cheat and steal the election regardless. Voter suppression, gerrymandering, and election fraud are really the core of their strategy at this point--they've got their hard core of voters who will never abandon the party, but they're not exactly bringing in the younger generations by droves at this point to their side, so they're fucked if they don't cheat as much as they can, and pack the judiciary with right-wing ideologues who are sympathetic to their twisted agenda, so that's exactly what they're doing.

(41,980 posts)We had our chance to elect Hillary. We didnt. Trump has never hidden what he was, and all the backpedaling done now by certain pundits that they underestimated the damage Trump would do, after saying Hillary would be just as bad or worse, or that Trump would usher in a revolution is worse than useless.
The Supreme Court should have been enough to vote for Hillary. Should have been.
The fear began election night. Now we have literal dead as consequences.
The time now is for anger. Let it burn, clean and bright and lead into action.

(14,491 posts)every year. My fundamental belief its that this trend is funded by a hidden network of global plutocrats that cause worsening economic inequality of income, fixed assets and resources. Then, throw in a boatload of brutal dictators, autocrats and gold-plated kingdoms on top of the mess.
The irony is that their wealth ultimately comes from our purchases of goods and services. The double-whammy is that as a result, people like me on social security have to send scarce money for lots of campaign contributions to counter their bullshit and evil.
Obviously we hope we can clean house with this next election, but also fingers crossed that Europeans will take to the streets and throw their bums out as well. What we're seeing is not normal and it's going to take a while to fix.

(2,809 posts)I have been ever since November of 2016, and it's been even worse a nightmare than I envisioned.
But I'm also afraid of a repeat of that fateful and disastrous election, which is exactly where we're headed if we primary Biden:
Every youth I've spoken to has NO enthusiasm for Joe. None. They'll sit the election out, meme the "makes no difference". And, they're right.
Joe will restore "normalcy". Clunk. Millions of write-in votes for Bernie and we're stuck with Trump another 4 years.
I'll vote for Joe, I like him, but the youths I work with? Nope. No excitement at all for another old establishment Boomer.
Now, if Elizabeth wins the nomination, watch the youths turn out in unprecedented numbers. They want change, they want a chance, they want out of perpetual debt, they want equality, they want peace, they want someone to stand up the the GOP and say "Oh, Hell NO!"
They do NOT want someone who will "reach across the isle".
