(23,314 posts)on some stocks I had in a riskier fund but didnt because I hadnt quite gained back what I lost at the end of 2018. I was almost back where I started and then lost a bunch last month. I may have to write it off and save what I have left in that fund and get that money in a safer place.

(14,275 posts)I have moved my spare cash into high yield indexed annuities. I don't ever expect to get rich, but I sure as hell don't want to wind up poor.

(25,183 posts)my IRA is in money market funds. For a brief time in early 2018, I had them in one of those so-called "balanced" funds that are targeted to a retirement date of 2020. The damned thing lost a thousand bucks before I pulled the plug on it. Yes, it went back up again, but for how long?
I just don't need the anxiety of it.

(25,183 posts)Like I did in the dot-bomb era. And my broker was my ex-wife while we were still married. No, that's not the reason we split up, but it shows that even smart people can get fooled.
