THE BOWTIE DOCTRINE - Tucker Carlson Is Privately Advising Trump on Iran

As tensions with Iran escalate and his advisers clamor for a hawkish approach, the president has been taking foreign-policy advice from a Fox News host.

In the upper echelons of the Trump administration, hawkish voices on Iran predominate—most notably Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Adviser John Bolton. But as tensions between the U.S. and Iran have escalated over the last few weeks, there’s been another, far different voice in the president’s ear: that of Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

A source familiar with the conversations told The Daily Beast that, in recent weeks, the Fox News host has privately advised Trump against taking military action against Iran. And a senior administration official said that during the president’s recent conversations with the Fox primetime host, Carlson has bashed the more “hawkish members” of his administration.

While some Fox News hosts have argued that a conflict with Iran would be justified, Carlson has consistently criticized U.S. military intervention abroad, particularly in the Middle East. In recent weeks, he has questioned whether war with Iran would be “in anyone’s interest.” Last month, he publicly chided Bolton, saying he was intentionally escalating tensions, and that a potential conflict would “be like Christmas, Thanksgiving, his birthday wrapped into one.”

During a Monday night segment devoted to the recent attack on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman, Carlson invoked the faulty intelligence leading up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003. The Fox News host compared Pompeo’s “misplaced certainty” that Iran attacked the tankers to former Secretary of State Colin Powell’s now-discredited claim that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction.

“We’re still paying a price for that,” Carlson said.

have on anything that leads an incompetent ignoramus like Trump to seek his advice?

Trump has painted himself into a corner and alienated the sort of qualified and experienced advisors that any legitimate president would be able to pick from. So he's left to scape the bottom of the barrel and come up with a partisan, celelbrity TV personality whose job is to entertain an audience of incontinent, decrepit old, white septuagenarian geezers.

Good choice, Trump! Carlson is the perfect advisor for Trump.

It's the only expertise that Trump pays attention to.

His vetting process for people in his administration is "they looked good on FOX."

The images on the TV are more important than intel and experience of people who don’t run their mouths for a living ....or in Tucker’s look confused until he yells over top of his guest.

There’s an Elmo comparison here but Elmo would be way better at this than Clustertrump

This is rich.

Now, the trust fund baby with no qualifications at all is suddenly the expert? And he is citing the 2003 run-up to the Iraq war as a cautionary example. Did he lay any of the ample blame for that episode on his current employer?

We have reached peak absurdity.

A fox news host going against trump's other hawkish advisors? I guess tucker has kids old enough to join the military.

But still the question remains: why take advice from a 3rd rate tv news host as opposed to someone who actually knows foreign policy? Oh yeah, it's trump we're talking about.

Did you expect different from someone who gets his real daily briefing from Fox & Friends?

By which, Tucker means Republicans.

He knows Trump is an idiot and cannot NOT fucker this up. He also knows that when this happens, it will be a repeat of Bush/Obama.
Lastly, he rightly suspects that the Democratic majority will not fuck around this time
Nationalized healthcare, energy and infrastructure, and controls on web/media, and paying for all that sure as fuck means that tucker will pay more in taxes...
And that's just NOT acceptable, Bolton be damned.

Thats what this means to Tucker
