Trump giving highest civilian honor to disgraced economist just because he praised Trump

By

The man who came up with the debunked economic theory that Republicans have used to justify tax cuts will be honored by Trump.

Arthur Laffer is a right-wing crank whose economic theory that tax cuts pay for themselves has not only been widely debunked by actual economists but has proven to be an abject failure when put into action.

Yet Trump is set to give Laffer the Medal of Freedom on Wednesday — the highest honor a civilian can receive — and it's all because Laffer has praised the egomaniac who occupies the Oval Office.

Laffer truly does not deserve the honor he's about to receive.

Kansas' GOP-controlled legislature passed a tax plan back in 2012 authored by Laffer that proved to be so disastrous and a cause of such outrage that it led a Democrat to actually win the deep red state's governor's mansion in 2018.

And the main steam media is going to show the two assholes together, while the orange hair asshole will be standing behind him smiling with his treasonous grin while putting the medal around the other assholes neck, who will then have the shit eating grin from ear to ear..........................and since 1984-2019 over 148 million Americans in this country live in poverty...................

I just wonder when we get a complete control of Congress and the white house if this asshole and that medal can be stripped from him.............................he really is a libertarian jerk ............................

In his remarks tonight, Trump called the Laffer Curve “still, a very, very highly respected economic curve”

“I love Laffer and its Curve. As a teenager, I studied the Laffer Curve and highly respected it then and highly respect it now. Can’t say enough good things about it. It’s still a wonderful curve. Just tremendous. Very, very highly respected.”

Fact check: Trump was 19 in 1965. Napkin incident and the coining of the term Laffer Curve didn’t happen until 1974.

REMARKS

Remarks by President Trump at Presentation of the Medal of Freedom to Dr. Arthur Laffer
Issued on: June 19, 2019

Oval Office

5:16 P.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT: Well, this is a big day. Very important for a very important subject. Today it’s my privilege to award our nation’s highest civilian honor to the father of supply-side economics: Dr. Arthur Laffer. (Applause.)

I know Art has been to the Oval Office, unlike most people, many times. But this is a very special time for you. This is a tremendous award. You have the Congressional Medal of Honor on the military side, which, of course, is something incredibly special. And the presidential medal is — I just want to congratulate you. There’s nothing like it, right?

DR. LAFFER: Nothing.

5. The Laffer curve is a solid theory - if interpreted as intended

Trump isn't doing that.

Laffer says there is a certain point where tax increases decrease revenue due to making the taxed behavior no longer worth doing at all. He doesn't say at what tax level it occurs or even that we are on the downward slope of the curve at all. To use an extreme example, put a $1000 per bottle tax on vodka and sales will vanish and almost no revenue will be collected.

Despite Republican insistence to the contrary, we are on the upward sloping portion of the curve for the various forms of taxation, not the downward. The problem isn't the theory, it is how it is being abused to justify policy the data doesn't support.
