This op-ed pushing a Trump-Nikki Haley ticket is by former NYC pol Andrew Stein (who later pled guilty to lying in a financial fraud). Stein knows Trump, of course, and is close to others in Trump world. Zero chance this trial balloon isnt ok with Trump.

(11,885 posts)He things she may run against him, and this is too claim she's running against him because he turned her down for the VP position , even though he didn't, and much like he did claiming the same with Mueller. He's scared of Haley, she's smart, and she hates him. He may have a mole who told him the GOP are thinking about dumping him for her. This could be trump projecting to use against her.

(6,709 posts)A lack of mention of Mother's boy at the campaign kickoff....
What he wants isn't necessarily what she wants tho. She worked for him for a while but managed to bail with her reputation largely intact.

(14,971 posts)a couple months ago she was in Charlotte for a meeting with evangelical leaders.

(25,183 posts)But Haley does attend Methodist services (as well as Sihk ones) and that's probably close enough for the fundies. But, many of them have put up with Trump thinking that Pence will eventually be president. It might be tough to switch them over to a female who has ties to an non-Christian faith tradition.

(31,261 posts)There was an article several months back about him believing that Pence was expndable because rightwing evangelicals were going to stay with Trump come hell or high water. If you look at his favorability readings among rightwing evangelicals, Trumps dumping Pence and not suffering with that group is a real possibility.

(6,262 posts)Don't think she has landed a good gig after ditching the UN. She has an ego that may think she can restrain his worst impulses as well as position herself for 2024.
Smarter people than her have fallen for this idea and are now in the Trump trash heap.

(15,751 posts)Wolff in 'Fire', the book of trump's 1st year, took a lot of flak at the time for a lot of his 'outrageous' statements. However, despite all kinds of threats of lawsuits, I haven't heard of any that materialized - taping and confirming probably helped. [The Fire book, somewhat like the Steele Dossier, has held up pretty well over time].

They went for Sarah Palin because she's a white-skinned, gun-crazed, Jesus-freak.
They won't allow Nikki Haley into the VP spot.

(28,326 posts)very white dudes. He knows his Twitter Proud Boys would balk, and those are his peeps. They're the ones who give him his daily affirmation. The ones who fluff him up every morning on the toidy and make him feel like a real president. The ones who fuel his dreams of lifetime rule and unfettered genocide.
He would risk a certain measure of fungelical enthusiasm, given their common, inherent racist patriarchal structure, along with a fair number of shitwits (male and female) who we've seen in interviews saying that they "just didn't think it was right to have a woman in those kinds of positions."
He MUST keep all those groups to have any chance at all, (especially the Twitter Proud Boys) and they must be energized, he can't risk any deflation in their enthusiasm, at all.
This is not to say he won't let the rumor float out there for a while, hoping to get more coverage from the controversy; hoping enough muddle-headed "girls" in suburbs might be confused enough to think he really will have a female VP. - But no. Not happening.
