If you need to be excited and energized to vote. You haven't been listening.

If you need to be excited and energized to vote about a candidate before you will vote for them, then you haven't been paying attention.

None of this energizes you?

-kids in cages

-a pResident, self described white nationalist, bigot that just leaves his hood in the closest, sorta, sometimes. oh fugg that it is on full display. how could you possibly miss that?

-a pResident that is crashing our economy, a self described pussy grabber, a serial adulterer that pays off hookers and an accused rapist, a wanna be dictator who sends love letters to another, colludes with Russia in our elections, admires every dictator in the world and alienates every one of our allies, uses OUR tax dollars to the tune of billions to golf at HIS properties while he enriches himself as the SS and his entourage rent rooms, golf carts and buys his second rate food.

-this pResident is destroying our climate with the roll back on protections supporting coal and more oil drilling and ignoring wind and solar energy, wants to drill in the GRAND CANYON! he and his are taking away women's rights over their own bodies and wants doctors and women to go to jail with these draconian laws that are being passed.

-he is a liar and chief. hasn't told one truth since being placed in office, oh, lets not forget his puffed out chest. he wants to "obliterate" Iran.

destroy, wipe out, annihilate, exterminate, extirpate, demolish, eliminate, eradicate, kill, decimate, liquidate, wipe off the face of the earth, wipe off the map; informalzap
"a nuclear explosion that would obliterate a city"

_ donnies spawn are raking in the dough, we will be lucky to have any thing other than a big fat zero in our treasury after they are gone...hopefully to jail.

So if all this does not excite or energize you to vote, sadly, nothing ever will. Fine, sit it out again. We don't have another four years after that. We don't. If you care about our future you vote for our country and ALL our children and our people.

Vote. Please do not throw your vote away to a third party. Our lives depend on it.

But it's okay. I'm old - I've seen this election cycle after election cycle

Democrats are great on policy, but suck at politics. In fact the last (and possibly only) savvy political move I've seen on the parts of Pelosi and Schumer was capitalizing on the anti-war movement and turning sentiment into strong votes.

They did great with that

If anyone needs to be pushed and prodded today to vote then we have lost. tRump needs to go. Voting third party and /or sitting out the vote will not get us there.

Vote Democratic. 2020.

The sad truth is that not everyone is as politically aware and engaged as those of us on DU are.

It's a form of pragmatic realism to take that into account.

in Democratic Primaries, too!

I've seen a post there where it was stated if a certain candidate was our nominee he would depress the vote.. implying that people would stay home instead of being "excited and energized" about helping Planet Earth, Democracy, and Humanity!

Like Humanity and Democracy isn't "exciting" enough for them.. like doing something about Planet Earth is ho hum against trump if we elect a certain candidate for our nominee.

Brilliant OP, she.. Thank You!

It was actually primary election day in my area for positions for first ward alderman, city clerk treasurer and the like.

I went to cast my ballot and was told by the poll workers that I didn't have anyone on the ballot. It was all third parties and we have a closed primary in my state. I tried to do my civic duty.

I'll be back for the general election in November. I never miss an election.

For many of us it doesn't matter who the winner of the Democratic primary is because it's already a given how superior they are to what is in the office now. I'm finding the whole process excruciating and not particularly exciting. I just want to vote that cruel, ignorant asshole out of office. The sooner the better. As far as I'm concerned they can draw straws to be the nominee.

It scares me how people on the left would rather attack the Democratic party rather than the GOP, and hound Democratic politicians for every little gaffe rather than demand that Republican politicians stop the slide into fascism.

Mark my words, Americans are walking the same path as Germany did in the 1930s, and if it isn't stopped, it'll end in the same place. Back then too, the far left (Communists and Socialists mostly) refused to collaborate with the other parties on the Left, because they claimed they were too moderate. As a result, they got exterminated by the far right they were too pure to fight alongside moderates to stop.

These next few years will be crucial, and every vote counts, as you say. It needs to be cast for the Democratic party, regardless of whether the voter is in a "safe" state or not. Firstly, vote numbers matter. Just see how the idiot in charge froths at the mouth when Secretary Clinton's vote total is mentioned. He cannot stand it. A high vote total will give the Democratic party increased moral heft even if it doesn't give it the commensurate result in seats (thanks to gerrymandering.) Secondly, "blue" states won't stay blue states if idiots think they can vote for the Jill Steins of politics. That's when the Republicans take over, and these Jill Stein voters own Trump almost as much as those who voted for him directly. That's how the system works, and until you get the majority to change the system, dead babies in concentration camps are on your moral balance sheet if you don't vote for the Democrats.

If you need to be excited and energized to vote, you don't get it. It's not about you, it's about us. You don't have to be in love with the candidate, you need to vote for the nominee best able to do the job.

Women and POC fought and died for the right to vote. I have voted in every election since I turned 18 - every election. Am I always excited about the candidates for whom I'm voting? No, of course not. I'm a grown up and I realize that they might not always share all my views on issues. But I vote for the person who is likely to do the best job.
