I'm sure I just disowned my family.

My facebook post just now:

This photo... YOU MUST SEE IT because it says so much... has me in tears.

These are HUMANS who try to come here... to avoid violence... to secure better lives for their children... who risk what little they have in desperation.

His other lies and crimes and policies that harm the environment and future in order to favor fatcats over hardworking people... those pale in comparison to his crimes against humanity. If you haven't seen those and admitted them then you're either f*ing blind or evil, yourself... no two ways about it.

So, this is the last straw for me. This is my Rubicon. This is my breaking point. This is NOT politics as usual. This is a rancid, putrid, perverted evil across America. So here's my advisory to my friends, family, whomever...

You vote for trump again and I will have nothing to do with you. It's over. I've had enough of your ignorance, excuse-making, stupidity, selfishness, racism, and lack of morality. I'm making a stand for HUMAN BEINGS, and sometimes that comes at a price. I'm willing to pay it.

This is especially true about the older folks, among which I am numbered. I wouldn't vote for any of today's Republicans and consider them to be sworn enemies of the Jesus that was I taught about by the nuns. It is difficult to see how these hateful Republicans can be supported by those who say they are following the teaching of Jesus. I will not argue with those in my family who insist on voting for Trump but only respond with the actual teachings of those they claim to follow. What has always troubled me in regard to the abortion is how much men have say about it. I have a big problem with men who could don't know a damn thing about what it is like to be pregnant and desperate to pass judgment. My heart goes out to any women faced with an unwanted pregnancy and the decision of what is facing her. Plus I have never in my life seen any real concerted effort by those who have so damn much to say step forward and offer to feed, cloth and educate the child.

I mostly avoid political discussions at family events, but everyone knows I and my youngest brother are "librals". A year ago my sister confronted me with " we no longer share mutual morals and therefore I can no longer include you in our family events." She is, by the way, also an evangelical christian, who ignores the teaching of Christ. There is a sickness that goes along with Trumpism.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, with conquering limbs astride from land to land
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand a mighty woman with a torch, whose flame is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles.
From her beacon-hand glows world-wide welcome
Her mild eyes command the air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame, "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she with silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

It's really too bad the original human residents of the Americas couldn't repulse those foreigners back in the 1500-2000's. Not that life was totally idyllic back then - it just didn't have all those white Europeans thinking they are better than anyone else.

Wed Jun 26, 2019, 02:14 PM

Was a dozen years ago after we had a disagreement about the LGBT community over the phone. She told me she had to hate gays because god demands it and he is very jealous. I asked her how could god hate his creation, which he made out of his own being.

She was so judgmental and so angry at me that she wrote me a three page letter telling me I was going to hell and went deep into exactly what punishments I would receive for eternity. Three pages worth! All I could think was that she sure enjoyed imagining my punishment in order to dive into such detail with what seemed like complete abandon.

We haven’t talked since, even when I took care of my mother who had Dementia for 5 years. She wrote my mother letters, not understanding that my mother had lost the ability to read or understand. My sister tried to claim that I wouldn’t let her see her mother even as she demanded that my mother leave her certain belongings in her will.

Believe me, you’re better off without such people.

My brother converted to Islam and our family was giving him grief on his wedding day.

They sat in the very last row of the seats at the ceremony. I sat alone in the very front row.

My family, esp. my father, was demanding that I make a choice: them or him. But it wasn't a choice. I knew the right thing to do.

it's not your doing at all. So-called conservatives did it to us and they must own the eventual blowback.

Their intention since Nixon has been to build a tightly closed bubble of right-wing thinkers and supporters, all thoroughly brainwashed by Rush and Rupert. No speaking or exchanging thoughts outside the bubble and everyone outside is the enemy. That's exactly how those I know treat me, as if I'm an alien. Most are articulate and well-versed in the dogma, but they are also aloof and arrogant although quite ignorant of the world around them.

After observing that process for around 50 years, it's my firm conviction that their bubble will eventually collapse from the shear weight of their bullshit, lies, and propensity for criminality. We're seeing cracks in it already.

But alas, it has quite a ways to go yet - mainly because they have access to insane amounts of money....

Thanks for sharing!.......

It's our favorite sport.

When I was a kid Christmas was like a miniature version of the Irish troubles, with a bit of home-grown U.S.A. religion, specifically Mormon and Jehovahs Witness, to spice things up.

These days conflicts are something even bigger, including a large atheist faction, most especially atheists vs. those who talk to God and God replies.

Nobody would ever disown family members they were at religious war with.

Muddy bloody religious rugby is just too damned fun.

It's possible the only thing any of my family truly despises is anti-intellectualism.

Worse shit comes down, we're all going the the re-education camps, more conservative Christians and left wing radical atheists alike.

My dissident ancestors didn't come to North America for any opportunity. As European political and religious dissidents they simply didn't want to be killed. The ships they came over on landed and they ran into a wilderness largely left vacant by guns, germs, and steel.

You made a choice long ago, exemplified by the DU handle you chose. You chose to identify with what some call heart, but I call soul. In this shallow, materialistic society of ours, the good heart is always a tiny voice compared to the screamings of the peanut-hearts. I'm not a contemporary Christian, but this is, I think, what the warning about family members turning against one another is about. The good heart is there to be the true guide, rejecting false values. Sometimes, I guess, rejecting those who spout falseness happens. If things settle down, perhaps a pact of silence on certain topics? But you've seen their petty hearts and that can't be undone.

One tries not to let political differences with family members affect the relationship - if for no other reason sometimes that it's exactly what one's adversaries would like.

There are extreme cases, of course, in which the other person cuts themselves off from you, without your being able to assuage them.

And if someone's that crazy, you're better off without them.

I guess that's some sort of silver lining. Among my "in-laws" there are Trump voters. They are people who vote Republican reflexively.
It's all about their belief that the GOP is "good for business", and nothing more. Other than that, they don't have a political
bone in their bodies. They are not whacko right wingers, or crazy fundies.

All that being said, they are appalled at what has come to pass since Trump was (s)elected.
Not one of them supports this regime. Some of them have vocally shown support impeachment.
None of them will be voting for Trump in 2020, and a couple of them claim to be flipping to Dems (that remains to be seen...LOL).
