I was hoping that shitty lump in my neck was just a swelled gland. But no, it just had to be head and neck cancer. The good news is after I get through 7 weeks of radiation and chemo, the prognosis is really good. So here is the deal all of you latte sipping elitist Democrats, I may not post much starting Monday for a few weeks, but when I get back in late August, I better not see a Mayor Pete, Kamala Harris, Liz Warren, Julian Castro, Joe Biden/other Democrats bashing post. If I do, someone is going to feel my post chemo wrath. She who has cancer gets to make the rules and there will be blood!
Left of Cool who will be back to fight another day

(26,112 posts)I too will be out of it for awhile and probably not posting much for at least a few weeks, maybe longer. When I do get back, I'll be on drugs and probably irritable from all the things I'll have to be working through including pain, eating and mobility issues. I agree that I don't want to see people bashing the candidates when I get back and won't be in a good mood or very forgiving and promise to address those that do this. I will try to be polite, but when you are in pain and very limited, well, I can't promise that my frustration won't show through.

(40,976 posts)I fought cancer for a year twelve years ago, and I know the mindset that drugs and impaired mobility brings. I wish you strength and good luck. And a speedy recovery!
I last had cancer 17 years ago but still remember the horrible time I had with both pain & getting around. I'm hoping the complications won't be so bad this time, but we'll see. I also hope you are permanently free from that scourge.

(31,391 posts)I went through the whole chemo/radiation thing with breast cancer a couple of years ago. (So far, so good).
It's a tough haul but you do what you gotta do. Seven weeks is a pretty quick gig though, so lucky you! (It's always great to find the bright side of things).
I hope you have a couple of people to baby you along the way, along with a nice comfy chair and lots of good channels of tv.
See you on the far side.

(9,688 posts)All the best to you! I really like the "prognosis is good" part
though not so much your 7 weeks of planned "summer fun".
Will hold that "good prognosis" in my thoughts, along with fervent wishes for a full recovery and with the faith that your doctors and that "summer spa treatment" will do their respective jobs so that you'll be back on board, ready to help us save our country, by the end of the summer.
Hugs and healing wishes!

(6,474 posts)My uterine cancer of 2013 came back in 2017 (I blame Trump!).
When I was going through chemo in round 2, DU was a haven for me. I didn't post a lot, but reading others' posts and seeing that others saw the disaster that was the beginning of the Trump administration helped keep up my good attitude.
I wish you the best. If you need to chat with those of us who have gone through it, check out the Cancer Support Group.

(60,406 posts)Breast cancer in 2001, and "the murderer" in 2016. "The murderer" is a deadly form of uterine or ovarian cancer that only attacks elderly or very slender women, and almost always kills them because it gives off no symptoms until it's far too late. My wife is one of those 1% of 1% whose gyn found it as a tiny spot during a routine exam for something else, and got a biopsy as an exceptionally precautionary measure, and then only because she had already had cancer previously. That is the only reason she is alive today.
So, it CAN be beaten. We'll expect you back here, because there WILL be some fighting to be done another day.

when I see Antares, I'll ask her to send some juice your way. She's got tons. She's said to be Betelgeuse's Neglected twin, but we're going to change all that.

Antares is so extreme that its properties are only approximately known. The present mass is of the order of 15 solar masses; the total luminosity is roughly 100,000 times that of the sun; its age is about 11 million years...
.... if Antares was where the sun is, we would be well inside it!

(3,584 posts)Long time lurker (as in 2000, but my account is fairly new). I'm a cancer survivor, myself: Testicular cancer in 2015. Before I had cancer, I used to tell people, "I'm sorry to hear that", when someone would announce news like this. After having had cancer, and then getting that response, I realized how frustratingly useless it is to hear "I'm sorry." or "I'm sorry. Let me know if I can do anything to help."
So, I don't say it anymore. Instead, I say, "Damn, that sucks. What can I do to help?"
Not "Can I do anything to help?" or "Let me know if I can do anything to help.", but "What can I do to help?" Why? Of course you CAN help. You must be ABLE to help if you asked the question. The real question is, WILL you? Let you know? I shouldn't HAVE to let you know, if you really mean to help.
So, LeftOfCool, having been where you are (just once), I know how badly that blows: It blows goat. I don't know where you live, but I'm in NC. If I can do anything for you, I will.
