Trumps outrageous VIP party plans for DC Fourth of July will create absolute bedlam: ex-White House ethics chief

On Saturday, former Office of Government Ethics director Walter Shaub took to Twitter blasting President Donald Trumps move to put the Fourth of July fireworks display directly in the heart of Washington, D.C., and section off the Lincoln Memorial and part of the reflecting pool for friends, family, and ticketed VIPs:

(19,365 posts)I think absolute bedlam, while undesirable in general, created (and predictably so) by a Trump decision ought to be given the highest profile possible so even ignorant generally-oblivious fence-sitters can be made aware of his absolute lunacy and incompetence. July 4th on the mall will fit that bill, I think.

(13,291 posts)It's just going to be one big Trump campaign rally, all paid for by the U.S. taxpayer.
I haven't seen any promotions on the news, so maybe they'll relegate the whole thing to a 90 second package.

will be airing "A Capitol Fourth". The major networks as well as cable CNN, MSNBC, and Faux have re-runs and fill-in programming for the evening.
The less coverage, the better.

(13,291 posts)According to PBS, "Americas Independence Day celebration, 'A Capitol Fourth,' is broadcast live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, before a concert audience of hundreds of thousands, millions more at home, and our troops watching around the world on the American Forces Network." The event will also be live-streamed on YouTube and Facebook.
In its description, advice and directions to the event, the website Tripsavvy says "tickets are not required" and my favorite slam, "There are other events on the National Mall for the 4th of July that you can check out as well."
Fat Donnie will not be there.

(14,092 posts)then Trump will forever afterward be known as the president that ruined the Fourth of July. Pundits will pinpoint the date as "the day he lost the election."

Traffic is outrageous on a normal 4th. Trump's VIPs will have trouble just getting there.

(9,688 posts)Of course, by their very nature, T-storms are unpredictable. So there will not be any way of knowing for sure ahead of time.
But here's hoping for a severe T-storm, coupled with downpour, about 67:30 pm in downtown DC on the 4th.

I was going to avoid this shit show, but friends and I have decided to bike in, weather permitting. The drunken Beach Boys mud-fest of the early '80s was an adventure; I imagine this will be too.
