Democrats march in lockstep with the left. What are they offering voters who backed Trump in 2016? (link: https://on.wsj.com/2IVQQlJ) on.wsj.com/2IVQQlJ

A candidate who is not a narcissistic, lying, demagogic, authoritarian, bigoted, misogynistic sociopath who has boasted of committing sexual assault and been credibly accused of rapeand who aided and abetted a foreign adversarys attack on the United States. Thats all.

(268,993 posts)We can stay left and still explain the issue with and without labels. Don't let the right use words to label Dems - explain issues. Student debt enriches banks. That is a fact. People are so busy paying debt they can't buy homes which enrich landlords and on and on and on.

(53,410 posts)Ties generations up in slavery to those debts. Students are forced to take low income jobs in corporations because corporations no longer need to pay high salaries to attract management level workers. Employees can no longer choose better salaries because their student debt is so massive that they cant take their time shopping for better paying jobs, which are shrinking because of the unfair competition of other student loan workers. They can easily be replaced by hundreds of qualified people who will take the less desirable jobs just to make their loan payments.
Its a vicious cycle of downward spiraling employment of highly qualified personnel.

(268,993 posts)There will be o permanent jobs - so no pensions, health care benefits, no vacations, no benefits for children.
Kill unions and then offer contracts. Replace all who are old and approaching pension age and new workers will get none of the benefits we had or have.
Never forget we were the guinea pigs for this neo-liberal model.

(73 posts)There is far more variability in policy positions amongst the Democrats than there is amongst the Republicans.
The Rs are marching in lock step behind Donald Trump straight into quasi Fascism, white nationalism, whatever you want to call it.
Going after Trump voters should not be the primary focus. Most of the effort should be in expanding the base and keeping them fired up.
Most Trump voters are lost causes. If you are OK with this administration, its policies, rhetoric and behavior then you are an irredeemable asshole anyway. Dont want those votes.

(14,564 posts)Having the media relentlessly chastizing democrats for not "reaching out" to people who display complete animous in their vote.
They know full well what they vote for, and it stands diametrically opposed to what we stand for.
Side, fucking right there is INFINITELY more variability in the D party that the braindead, servile party of sheep.

(14,173 posts)We have infighting even here in DU ffs. Its a big tent in the Democratic party. The more conservative Dems fret about the influx of more radical "Democratic socialists" and the left wing of the party is frustrated with the slow pace of movement from the top. But at least we can have a civilized debate (usually).
The GOP has fractured and insisted that all walk in lockstep with Trump or they are ostracized. Never Trumpers are not welcome back. There is no room for dissension in that party whatsoever. They have to kiss Trumps ring or they are out.
Just the idea they' d use that term to describe Democrats, conjuring images of goose-stepping soldiers in the old USSR.
"What are they offering voters"? Really? You haven't been hearing of Medicare for All, or fighting Climate Change, NOT separating families into cages? A host of other issues Democrats have been putting out there.

(49,001 posts)Trump voters are bamboozled by labels like the "left", which is why the editorial board of the WSJ uses such labels.
Emphasize the positives of proposals getting hashed out by the Democrats:
* Forgiveness of student debt. Many Trump voters have student debt or children facing such debt.
* Medicare for all. Many tRump voters don't/didn't have insurance or are chained to jobs by needed insurance benefits.
* Tax the rich. Most tRump voters never saw a tangible benefit from the tax heist TrumpubliCons pulled off.
Never deny the label if you are on the left but no need to raise it either. Talk up the accomplishments and especially the platforms of your favorite candidates with tRump voters who might listen or politely pretend to listen, even if rare. Appeal to their self-interests as the way in to make them think a bit.
tRump likes to create distractions so that both sides don't think too much. Make his voters think.

(81,261 posts)What? Like thats something bad or disgusting or non-sexist? Somebody who doesnt rape and brag about it? Somebody who isnt a congenital pathological liar? Like thats somehow a bad thing? Somebody who is so vile, vulgar, and untrustworthy that even you wouldnt behave that way and certainly wouldnt want your children to follow that example?
Then what does that say about YOU, WSJ Editorial Board???
Dammit, I just keep on getting dragged back to that same damn question. WHAT does that say about those who cling to him and somehow manage to justify supporting him?

(2,690 posts)But Trump's popularity is deeply ingrained and his loyalists will remain loyal even if their lives are undermined by his erratic policies.
The one bright light on the horizon: we outnumber them and if we do, in fact, turn out to vote en masse, in such numbers that not even Trump's awful, criminal administration along with its equally foul Republican statehouses will be able to interfere with and otherwise massage the vote in their favor -- we can drive Trump and all of his minions out of D.C. and the statehouses forever.
But the 2020 voter turnout has to be tremendous, historic. Anyone who is not for Trump must vote for whoever the Democrats put out there. Anyone who stays home does a disservice to the rule of law, the constitution, and our hope for the future.
We, the people, must retake the WH, keep and increase control of the House of Representatives, and take back the Senate.
