I will not be boycotting the 4th of July and here's why.

I will not allow that orange"want to be" dictator take my celebration away from me.
Me and Trooper will be listening to patriotic music, read the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and The Bill of Rights.

Trooper, being the loveable freak that he is, like fireworks. Hates cameras, but likes watching fireworks. Go figure? Will join me on our little patio to watch all of them that will be going off around us that night.

It won't be much, but I will not let a$$hat take my celebration. He won't be in office forever.

my 4th of July celebrations tend to be more muted, and I can't justify burning money so no fireworks here.

I took the oath that Trump so frivolously violates on a regular basis. AFAIC, the oath still applies to me, 42 years after I took off the uniform. It means that I don't support Trump, and I'm OK with that. It does say "enemies, foreign and domestic."

There is a bi-cultural organization here called "Amerika Haus" and it is dedicated to improving cultural ties between the two countries. It was set up after World War II. I belong to the Köln (Rheinland) chapter, and the organize a party in Kökn on the Rhein every year. My wife and I will be going. No huge personalities, just the mayors of Düsseldorf and Cologne and maybe a consul or two. But we get to see some interesting people and get some nice grilled food. We also then have to haul ass back here to Düsseldorf, because our plane for the USA leaves the next morning!

8. 4th of July is a celebration of the idea of America

A place that was born out of the ideals of the enlightenment. A place of promise and opportunity. 4th of July is not about Trump, as much as he wants to make everything about him. We can celebrate the good in America while knowing and wanting to fix what has been wrong and what is currently wrong about it. Patriotism isn't about thinking that your country is great and has no flaws. It is about understanding the ideals of your country and trying to make sure it gets there.

It is Trump that has no concept nor right to celebrate 4th of July. He has done nothing for the United States. You are right to celebrate despite of him. Hopefully he will be a brief, cautionary footnote in our long history.

I will not honor his theft and will not watch one minute of his self-praise, anti-American worker hate fest. If there are fireworks in my neighborhood, as there was last year, I will go outside and watch and enjoy them immensely. I'll enjoy the family bbq before then, the walk with my husband and sister early in the morning, and fireworks hopefully live but if not I'm sure there will be a channel with fireworks other than assholes' version. He can't steal this, no matter how much he tries. My only real question is how many people will he hire to fluff up the crowd? The lying self-praise and denigration of our press, our constitution, and anyone who opposes his criminal treason is all expected and totally stupid and boring and I hope millions, like me, will not give him any attention at all, except to point out his total derangement and idiocy.
