(63 posts)and doesn't represent all of Alaska, just those who vote for him. He is an example of what can happen when a state is run by one side and has all the power. Term limits allow a change. He was initially appointed when Begich was killed just like Murkowski was appointed by her Governor daddy. It stinks.

(5,499 posts)But in general, I would say one loses perspective about life about 50 years in Congress. They lose the perspective of the worker, the perspective of the business owner. That said, terms limits are nice ideas but what if you get someone in office who is really good. Maybe 25 terms is too many but what is the right number?
I, for one, wish Barack Obama could have run for a third term. I said the same thing about Bill Clinton.

(32,640 posts)who has far more individual power and influence.
Legislators are a small part of a large crowd, and those who have more experience with the procedures and rules rely less on lobbyists to help them get familiarized. POTUS has a large staff and a cabinet to assist, as do governors to an extent.
Congress has such a short term as it is, I don't know how anyone could get up to speed in just a few terms.
in any other profession we view experience as a good thing. Ted Kennedy certainly was able to do more good the further along in his career, and Paul Welstone, who promised not to seek a second term realized during his first that he would be much more effective as a public servant in a second term.

What does it tell you when they want term limits?
