11. The last M4 Sherman rolled off the assembly line

in July 1945. And it was a lousy tank. Lightly armored and armed and gasoline powered. The Germans called them "Tommy Cookers," because the 75 mm and 88 mm guns of the Panzer IV and Tiger easily tore through the Sherman's light armor, and ignited the gasoline. Unless they could fire at the rear or underbelly of the German tanks, the 75 mm Sherman round usually bounced off.

But I guess the name stuck in the CinC's spongy brain.
