Being a life-long Democrat I am very embarrassed to admit this but here it goes

A couple of years ago I got into ancestry and started my family tree I found I was distantly related to a few presidents Kennedy, Lincoln, Pierce, and The Bushes GWB has the most lines in my ancestry I've been thinking about writing him. But I can't bring myself to do it as I hate the man. My mother's grandmother was Samual Bush's niece My father is related to both the Walker's and the Pierce's. Here is the dilemma my kids want to write to him I know he would probably never respond anyway but I told them no they couldn't write him. Am I being petty?

hate is bad for your health, You can look down on them, pity them, disrespect them, but not hate. hate hurts you.

As for me, I have no respect for them, and I ignore them if I can...

Just joking! What's the harm with your kids writing to him. It's not an endorsement.

if we've been here awhile. My father's family are Germans who came over mid-1800s ... I don't know a lot about the line but I've been told they were Prussian. My mom's family on the other hand - through her mom - are the Halsteads. I am related to Bill Gates - he is my generation (and my age) but the common ancestor is about 13 generations ago. I can't imagine we'd have much to talk about - ha - I'd tell him he'd ought to be paying more taxes and he'd laugh.

You should have your kids write to Barbara - she might respond. She and George have to be in their 80s now and might find it endearing. I wouldn't bother with W ...

my mother would never have been smuggled out of austria were it not for the holocaust, so my parents would never have met.

so i have adolf hitler to thank for my very existence.

ok, so you're a distant relative of some shmuck. who isn't?

do what everone else does, talk about the good relatives instead. lincoln? kennedy? COOL!

gee-dubya-who?

and you're right, the letter would either be ignored or you'd get a form letter. carter was actually quite good about really responding to letter post-presidency, my younger brother even got an interview for his high school newspaper out of one such letter. but i don't think other presidents are into that.

personally, i would strongly discourage mini-unblock from doing that sort of thing. the worst case scenario is shrub responds with an autographed picture, and NO WAY that's getting any wall space in my house!

I have blood relations I never speak to, and I have step-grandkids, no biological relationship at all, whom I adore and would die for.

If kinship with B*sh makes you uneasy, don't open a can of worms by contacting him. Life is stressful enough...

You don't always have to agree with their decisions. Just be sure they understand that a reply would be very unlikely.
