a divorce from reality and sanity. The MSM keeps referring it as a blunder much to my annoyance.
A blunder is when you confuse LaGuardia and Kennedy airports as the pick up or delivery place for your brother.
Trumps ridiculousness reminds me of the old joke where the guy says to his coworker that he had a terrible Freudian slip at breakfast with his wife. He said, I meant to say Please pass the sugar
The coworker asks, What DID you say?
The reply, I said You ruined my life you fucking bitch

(113,971 posts)Whether frontotemporal dementia (FTD) or related neurological explanation, I think we are going see this more and more over the next months. The MSM needs to stop laughing it off and start asking pointed and appropriate questions. His facial tics, balance issues, and increasingly frequent abnormally dilated pupils are no longer so subtle.

(113,971 posts)intentional method of "re-righting" himself. I have to agree with those who predict his symptoms are going to increase--and rapidly.
It was particularly obvious during his UK visit.
Ms. Toad
(38,640 posts)but when I had the same symptom (loss of range of neck motion to the left), it caused vertigo and the gabapentin I took for it replaced the vertigo with dizziness (and balance issues). The gapapentin also turned my brain to mush, so I was functioning at about half speed (as opposed to about 1/4 speed with the vertigo).

(33,588 posts)That would partially explain the expansion of his rear and his stiff neck and trunk movements.

(113,971 posts)much like this, commonly used with Parkinsons patients, which would readily explain the protrusion under his suit jacket at the back

(33,588 posts)maybe someone should start one.
I personally don't think that would explain the change in the range of motion in his neck and trunk. I could however, see body armor not only being restrictive, but more likely with his increasing paranoia. He supposedly started wearing it after someone rushed the stage at one of his campaign events.
I am of the mindset that it is never one thing, but usually a combination of things, that is the source of any aberrant behaviors. So it's conceivable he wears the armour with a back brace, has syphilis, is a psychopath/sociopath and a there's neurological etiology for his bizarre actions.

(113,971 posts)including one that more often presents with signs of dementia. What really doesn't fit, though is the timing. Trump was most sexually active in the mid-late 70s, so if he was infected that long ago, it really should have shown up dramatically far before now. Most forms of neurosyphilis, even the most advanced can be traced back to infection within the previous decade.
GeorgeGist

(113,971 posts)to be more rapidly diagnosed and treated. Likewise, contact tracing by public health improved dramatically in response to HIV.
Similar improvements for STDs in males, though there are regional differences and drug-resistant gonorrhea has been an emerging issue.
Not to mention, Trump was paranoid as hell about contracting HIV.. Evidenced his horrible comment about dating Princess DI to Howard Stern (that he'd require an HIV test) and his bragging about "forcing" women to be tested as WAPO covered some time ago:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/02/05/trump-used-brag-about-forcing-women-take-hiv-tests-now-he-wants-eliminate-its-spread-by/?utm_term=.2f9270cd6d67
He clearly was both aware and concerned about STD prevention in general, no matter the full extent of his behaviors.

(113,971 posts)There are some professional private forums where this has been a subject of discussion. My impressions are consistent with the majority posting from a number of specialty disciplines and perspectives. There is absolute consensus that something organic is going on beyond what can be explained by his narcissistic personality disorder (or other related PDs).

(113,971 posts)2013. Syphilis has been increasing overall since 2001. There has not been a concomitant increase in neurosyphilis which remains quite rare nor other chronic forms which strongly suggests both a recent increase in high- risk behaviors, but likewise early detection and treatment preventing the sequela of chronic infection. Overall, the prevalence of reported neurosyphilis from 2009 to 2015 was low (0.84%)

Increase in incidence reflects both an absolute increase in cases, but also an improvement in detection and public health outreach, resulting in contacts of cases both identified, traced, tested, and treated. That is the good news from this.

(6,331 posts)Maybe his father had it. 10% of all men had it in Europe in the late 1800's. Gonorrhea was around then too.
hlthe2b
(113,971 posts)Obviously, someone that progressed to full-blown neurosyphilis in each of the predominating presentations is more likely to be detected now than in Van Gogh's time and his course illustrates my point about latency.. Congenital syphilis is neither asymptomatic at birth (or shortly thereafter) nor subclinical. It is pretty obvious with a wide range of symptoms from hearing loss to cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus. Trump's father died following a typically long course of progressive dementia confirmed as Alzheimer's. That fact would likely predispose Trump to Alzheimer's as well, but some of his symptoms are more consistent with FTD.
Gonorrhea is not a cause of chronic neurological disease though on extremely rare occasions can cause acute meningitis--usually in sexually active young teens/adults. Not a latent disease nor a complication that would not be immediately fulminant and thus recognized. A work-up for bacterial meningitis would be standard of care and thus it would be diagnosed. So, no, this isn't what we are talking about re: Trump.

I wouldn't wish progressive dementia or neurologic disease of any kind on anyone, but the next few (six or so) months are going to be revealing I think.
There is only so long that his minders (cough Jarvanka) can hide it or make excuses for it, even with the "nearly fully incurious" media.

(36,631 posts)You said, "I wouldn't wish progressive dementia or neurologic disease of any kind on anyone [...]".
I think there are arguably legitimate exceptions to that "anyone" -- Hitler, Idi Amin, Pol Pot, Putin, Trump. (Obviously not a complete list, and obviously not a list of peers). There are harmful organisms in the world. Sometimes unpleasant diseases provide limits to the harm those organisms can accomplish.
For Labor Day, I'm wishing for global tv coverage of TrumPutin taking a shit on the White House lawn while proudly announcing giving birth to his successor and savior of the world.

(271 posts)Lack of thumb and finger roll for instance. I was diagnosed with PD in 2005. I could not use any of the Dopa medications and was put on Rasagiline. Later my neurologists changed the diagnosis mainly because I never had the thumb and finger roll to vascular dementia after yearly MRIs showed changes in the white matter in my brain. I have the slurred word, misuse of words, confusion and incomplete sentences. My vascular dementia is caused by multiple mini-strokes.

(6,212 posts)I have thought that all along. My father had Parkinson's and had many of the same symptoms as trump. I think that is why trump sometimes sits with folded arms because of shaking. The same walk starting to look like shuffling. He may start to have illusions/delusions as my father did.
