These number have improved since 2016. There is really only one way they can go. Up.
Just leaving this here as I was reminded about this article after reading about Salamander Resort.
Every day I read statistics and other information that leads me to believe that reparations aren't only necessary, not having done them already is one of our greatest failures.
I know the content here is a little disjointed but I thought it was worth sharing.

(53,410 posts)When I read that Georgetown University was built by slaves who were later sold (this is documented) and who ended up living in a very poor community, it makes total sense that the University should be obligated to do some sort of reparations. To start they should give the descendants of the slaves they used and then sold tuition free full college educations and housing, in ANY college the students want to attend. They should also make sure all the students in schools are educated so they qualify for college.
And this just for starters.
Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
