Women have been fighting for the right to be equal members of society for centuries.
Our wages are lower for equal or comparable duties in employment. If were not white its even worse.
We are not allowed to make healthcare decisions about our own body in all circumstances. Doctors are threatened with prison or worse for helping women.
We are exploited by men for their pleasure. We are blamed for how we dress or behave when violated. The media has influenced society to think that it is normal.

(95 posts)Even today at the womens soccer team celebration...The man stood up and said that the US spends more on its women teams than any other country. Who gives a fat rats ass? Are women paid less than the men? Solve that problem and then get back to us. If they were going to fix the problem, today would have been the day to do it.

(628 posts)Of course I believe in equal pay.
But I want to ask a question and Im on vacation and cant research. My friend said and I dont know if this is not true.
But said that mens soccer pays more because it generates more revenue. Sponsorships - advertising... etc. if this is true than it makes sense. Sports pay goes by revenue. Maybe this is not the case.
I mean Alex Morgan makes more in endorsements than I bet any mens USA soccer player other than maybe Pulisic. Thats how sports works.
Its why MLS players get paid less than NBA players. Its driven by revenue.
Now maybe more money is being made under womens soccer and they should be paid more than the men. Sports isnt really equal
Mach1miles
(95 posts)Quite the disparity. If you are going to look at revenue you will have to look at advertising and field preference times and costs of men coaches instead of women. Expense vs income on both teams.
But to your question about getting yelled at. Women are getting pretty tired of sucking hind tit. Make all of the excuses you need. Dont expect to get yelled at. Change will come either way.

(5,111 posts)Womens soccer does not bring in the revenue so why should they get paid the same? This is not a charitable nonprofit. Yes our womens team is the greatest womens team in the world. But there are a number of other factors to consider. US Womens soccer is much farther along than womens soccer in most countries. US mens soccer not so much. So its not surprising that they are so strong compared to other womens teams. Our womens team also has a great deal of continuity because many of them have played together for years and years. The US mens team not so much in fact many are US citizens but not necessarily Americans they play on the national team when the time comes and then go on their merry way. Again, there is far less continuity. So yes the womens team is great, but they have many advantages. Interesting when the US womens team played the US mens U16, they lost. So its not as simple as sexism. Ok Im bracing myself to get yelled at. Fire away!

(5,111 posts)From sponsorships. Think Manu and Barca. Ticket sales and even advertising are a tiny portion of what they haul in. Im sure there was a ton of ad revenue generated from the womens World Cup. But sponsorships not so much. I would imagine US womens soccer pulls in lots of ticket sales too, maybe more than mens soccer, but its not that simple.

(51,308 posts)I cant speak with any real knowledge about it. I know how big mens soccer is in other countries. Its huge.
Im not that much of a fan really.

(100,063 posts)The US isn't a blatantly religious society like Saudi Arabia or Pakistan or India is, but our religious fundamentalists really aren't that much different from theirs. And the more vile and toxic they get with their religion, the more likely they are to commit some extremely vile and foul acts using their religion as an excuse. Just look at Brett Kavanaugh for instance and all the torture and abuse of women he got away with, but it's OK because he's Christian and the Christian fundamentalists will support any POS like that as long as he says what they want to hear.

(29,067 posts)but what should be obvious is that patriarchal societies developed patriarchal religions, not the other way around..
It's really not that comiicated. Men began dominating women because they COULD. They had a physical advantage over us and used it. building an entire social/economic and cultural system around it. A power dynamic, pure and simple.

(100,063 posts)We wouldn't have toxic religion if it weren't for toxic patriarchy, and we wouldn't have toxic patriarchy if it weren't for toxic religion. But the toxic part is what is alarming to me. Toxic anything is not good for any society.

(20,576 posts)that opened my eyes. I have two women close to me who were raised by parents who thought girls were useless. One was really poor growing up and she was used as a maid. The boys got more food and real beds to sleep in and she did not. In high school her mother made her pay for her food but not the boys. The mother never used her name, but rather called her "girl."
The other woman was not poor but she was likewise treated as the maid. Her parents often mentioned their preference for the boys. She too had to pay for her food while she was in school so she left the home. Her sister stayed and accepted her inferior status for the rest of her life.
These women, like all those raised the same, were denied love. The ones I know grew up to be ardent feminists. So many others though may be against equal rights because they were raised to be inferior and think of themselves that way. They are afraid of equality because they don't know what that is. We have to understand that there are more of these women than we would like to admit.

(3,321 posts)we elect women to public office.
Presidents Of The United States, Senators, Congress people, Judges, and State and Local offices.
Let's do it. Let's change the narrative.
Use the power of the vote. What's it for if it's not used?
Elect women to public office, it's way past time in this country and in this world.

(51,584 posts)in almost all societies and cultures, religions and governments are misogynistic. It will take a very, very long time to change the situation since it is so deeply rooted around the globe and in all societies. It most likely will take just as long to un-do thousands of years of brainwashing by male leaders in all professions, govts and religions.
