A message to Trump Supporters

A message to all tRump supporters:

When this national nightmare is over....and it WILL be over, hopefully sooner rather than later....and the country is returned to normalcy, order is restored, and patriotism and common sense replaces bigotry, hate and stupidity, don't expect to regain the stature you once enjoyed as a citizen and return to the society you ransomed to placate your hate. Everything this country once stood for....everything better men and women than you sacrificed their lives to protect and preserve....everything we held dear to our hearts, was cast aside, thrown away, denigrated, defiled, stepped on, ridiculed, and despised by you in order to support the most corrupt, dishonest, fascist traitor to every occupy the people's house.

When our free press told you the truth about him, you rallied behind his cries of "fake news" and supported his attack on our free press.

When fake "Christian" religious frauds attempted to hijack religious freedom in order to force feed their own deluded brand of bigotry and hate disguised as "Christian values" you stood by and let them stoke your inbred prejudices.

When the same mindset that turned Germany into Nazi Germany in the 1930's tried to establish a foothold here, you again showed your true colors and instead of quashing it in its tracks, you abandoned the spirit of this country, forgot history, and allowed its hatred and division to seep into our society.

When healthcare was taken away from the most at-risk of our society, you allowed it to happen.

When children were denied food and healthcare, you supported it.

When innocent African-Americans were murdered by law enforcement, you remained silent, only to finally raise your voices in disgust and hatred when they knelt in protest.

When children were murdered in schools and sane gun legislation was called for, you sided with the gun lobby and decided that the murder of school children was more favorable than sensible gun laws.

When hard-working, law-abiding, tax-paying citizens were denied their constitutional and human rights simply because of who they chose to love, you allowed discrimination and hate to overtake your sensibility and relegated them to second-class citizenry, using YOUR "religious freedom" as the rationalization for the hatred you hid behind.

When environmental policies that demanded clean water and clean air were thrown aside in order to coddle to the monetary interests of the polluters, you remained silent.

When policies that assisted the homeless, the elderly, the needy, the hungry, the veterans, the retired, and the sick were systematically nullified and terminated in order to transfer that tax money into the pockets of billionaires, you turned a blind eye to their struggles.

When children seeking refuge were taken from their parents and housed in cages, instead of outrage you supported the victimization and maltreatment of refugees seeking asylum.

When the reputation of this country and our commitment to our steadfast allies were trashed in order to appease our most rabid enemies, you supported the traitors who betrayed the country and everything we once stood for.

In every instance where compassion, civility, sympathy, acceptance, inclusion, humanity, fairness, justice, and respectability were needed, you supported the policies and the people who showed no compassion, no civility, no sympathy, no acceptance, no inclusion, no humanity, no fairness, no justice, and no respectability to anyone whose very existence they disregarded and refused to legitimize.

So again, when this is finally over, don't expect to be accepted back into the society of the REAL Americans you stabbed in the back simply to legitimize your own prejudices. At every turn....at every chance....at every opportunity, when you were called on to support the foundation and pillars that this country was built on, you looked the other way and were willing to support those who were tearing down those pillars and destroying that foundation. You had no qualms about sacrificing this country to justify your own intolerance. When the choice was to support your country and its constitutional guarantees for everyone, or support the traitor who has worked tirelessly to destroy those constitutional guarantees, you chose the corrupt wannabe dictator over the constitution. Please know that there are many of us, this person especially, who truly love this country, and are intelligent enough to see the damage your misguided support of this administration has reaped. I, for one, will NEVER FORGET and NEVER FORGIVE you for the choice you made and what that choice did to this country.'

But you will forgive, we have to. We forgave the Japanese and rebuilt their country. We forgave the Germans, and they became one of our closest allies.

It’s hard, it’s sometimes impossible, but it’s the next step of rebuilding. We have to re-educate the 30%, become allies with the middle 30%, and move on grudgingly.

Our 30% of progressive thinkers can’t do it alone, we must find a way to engage others in the service of good.

And shun the deplorable.

I'm 100% in favor of welcoming people who've changed their minds back into polite society, but I'm not so sure about people who are still members of that particular hateful cult. The door should always be open to them if they understand and regret the damage they did, but I don't want them causing problems from the inside if they're allowed back in before they come to their senses. I wouldn't invite an angry honey badger into my home.

Like in Germany, if Americans want to remain Nazis they will be shut out of free society. Take that sh*t somewhere else.

A good rule is don't forgive someone who doesn't renounce their "evil ways". That's a waste of time for anyone---washing a dog that will just go outside and roll in the mud again. Anyone proud to be a "deplorable" needs more help than simple forgiveness, and remains a danger to the health of the remaining ideologues trying to clean up their act.

As it says in both Matthew and in Luke: "If they brother offend thee, rebuke him. If he says he is sorry, forgive him."

The underlying implication in that message is that the apology has to be real. The other guy has to realize what he has done and try and change. It isn't enough to just toss off a 'sorry' and go on being a jerk.

And some things simply can't be forgiven, which is why there was a Nuremberg. Or you can try and go the way of South Africa with their Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

The US didn't just "forgive" the Germans and Japanese, we put military bases in their countries to keep an eye on them. Then we rebuilt their governments as we wanted them to be.

The best that deplorables should expect is to be ignored and shunned, not forgiven. They inflicted too much on us to not expect some reaction to their behavior.

it is written at too high of a level of complexity to have an effect on the target audience. Their eyes will glaze over.

It's not just for them. It's because your message IS so powerful it needs to be heard beyond just the well-educated denizens of DU. Most of the Trumpers cannot think beyond a very short time span. They are addicted to the thrill of "owning the libs", and not thinking of a post-Trump future.

I am experimenting with those I know and asking them "What happens after Trump - what do they want?" None of them can think that far out. Your letter forces them to do so. But they won't be able to digest it. We need to take up this message in ways that they can get it. Keep working on the core message, reduce it to bullet points that are quick to scan. I'll watch for other examples that might be effective.

You're on to something.

Thank you.

Many people feel similarly.

I hesitate to join the chorus because I do not know how much more division our country can take?

Everything you say is true but we do not wish to see our people resort to violence.

We must make our own decision about where we stand.

It is not easy to "forgive and forget".

Except they don't care. You think they don't know these things, well they do. They just don't care. One reason for this apathy is Obama. Yes, most of these extreme right wing knuckleheads never, ever expected to see a Black man become president in these United States. His historic win sent shock waves throughout the right wing communities. And if it happened once, it may happen again, or it could be a woman, or another non-white minority. The conservative right wing already feel disenfranchised (although they are the most privileged in all the land), they feel left out, they feel like the forgotten minority. Watching Obama take center stage and then propose changes, not just for Blacks, but for all Americans. Yes this is what made this Black man so special, not perfect, certainly not error free, but special. Special because he had enormous respect for his fellow man and his country. He knew his appointment was not something to take for granted so he gave it all he had. It was like a gift. He knew he had to be a beacon, an example for all, especially black children. So he didn't break the law or commit the crimes the conservatives accused him of---because he knew how important his position in life was. But it didn't stop conservatives from accusing him and trying to bring him down. They were scared, scared that if they didn't tarnish Obama, another minority would win, a woman. Compounding this fear is the reality of immigrants crossing boarder creating greater fear that future generations of white conservatives will be pushed aside. Newsweek and Time magazine and USA today reported decades ago that the population of Latin people in this country will outnumber whites by 2050. This was reported back in 1983. What the conservatives need is someone who has the balls to stop it! Rush Limpbaugh won't, none of the conservative candidates we've witness couldn't or wouldn't. Reagan and Newt Gingrich made a big splash, but petered out. Talk radio, the fakenews network (foxnews), the unbelievably hypocritical christian right failed. Now we have trump! Call him a patsy, call him a fool, call him whatever, he is the man they expect to get it done. They don't care about his flaws, his ineptness, the rapes. They only want him to accomplish the things they want done.

instead of "forgiving and forgetting" she gets even. Sometimes you should NOT forgive and forget or the crimes/harm will be repeated and allowed to continue. To stop them you must make sure that they will be remembered for the damage they have purposely and gleefully done to so many who could not defend themselves or stop their sadistic atrocities to the innocent.
