(2,893 posts)1. Just as predicted. And yet
airlines dont want to fly established routes, but instead fly directly point-to-point, thus removing advance warning that pilots could receive from planes ahead of them. Go figure.

(60,010 posts)3. Sort of related...
That tropical storm/maybe hurricane now in the Gulf 90 miles south of me, was created by a very abnormal jet stream that pushed the storms over the US East Coast right down into the Gulf, where the hot water is contributing to the storm now.
Which is predicted to spin around the Miss/Louisiana coast and then go back over land, due north again.

(5,810 posts)5. I mentioned to my husband yesterday
that were not accustomed to having storms form like this. Were more used to the waves coming off of Africa, crossing the Atlantic then curving upward through the Caribbean and on into the Gulf. This one kind of snuck in via a different route. Hope it isnt too hard on Louisiana and Mississippi. The people in Mexico Beach and Panama City are breathing a sigh of relief. We live in NW FL so were expecting lots of rain and a little bit of wind, but nothing to worry about.
