(58,785 posts)Not just America's first female Native American congressman from Kansas.
Why? Just speculation, but he's a left-wing extremist with a long history of attacking and lying about the Democratic Party, including all through the 2015-2016 election. Remember his claims that the Democratic Parties of many states stole the elections?
And his hostility has continued behind the scenes since Ocasio was sworn in. Not only are her colleagues fed up with his hostile misbehaviors inside their caucus, but his behavior is threatening Ocasio's career as well.
So my best guess is this is he and his fellow JD/Brand New Congress hostiles threatening Ocasio with they'll do if she fires or tries to get them under better control. After all, 2020 is election year for her also and she can always be added to their hit list if they decide she's just another "corrupt, corporatist" Democrat.
Of course, I could be wrong and she could really be with them, but what appear to be intelligent and responsible behaviors since taking office have frequently contradicted that. Just for instance, she's often called out Republicans as the main threat to our nation, not Democrats, something these far-left dissidents never do.
In any case, I suspect she's in trouble whether she does fall in line with her queen-makers or doesn't. She badly needs some good friends in the party, and in getting her to publicly support his misbehaviors the JDers on her staff are busy trying to cut any lifelines she might have established.
Her colleagues don't like being called rabid racists any more than we do.

and as you can see here, he is also head of communications and messaging for Hakeem Jefferies.
thus he is indeed on a Member of Congress' staff.

Not a single call answered by a live person.
If you would, please give her office a call on Monday morning 718-662-5970 to see what the recording says or to let us know if a live person answers.
As far as I can tell, when it comes to a "working" office (with real people) she's still borrowing State Representative Reyes' office for her "Bronx" office! No photos of how much actual working office space her staff has, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was probably just a desk in the corner of Reyes' office.
I know that I wouldn't be happy with MY Representative if I couldn't reach him and if he didn't have a local office. I'll bet that many of her constituents probably feel the same way.

(13,850 posts)where Amazon was supposed to go, was technically her district. Their Rep is Carolyn Maloney.
George II
(67,782 posts)....on the west side of Manhattan near Penn Station (and one in the old US Post Office Building)
That is in Jerry Nadler's district, Carolyn Maloney's district (who has been redistricted a few times since being a Congresswoman) is the east side.
Dorian Gray
(13,850 posts)includes the east side, UN area, but also Long Island City and Greenpoint, BK. So it crosses the river. (The LIC factory was supposed to be in her district (12). Not Ocasio-Cortez's (14).) People blamed AOC for being against it. Some of her constituents might have benefitted from it. But it wasn't her district nor was she involved in the dealing to get Amazon here. (Just wanted to make that clear.) Post 60 (which started this particular subthread) stated that it was her district.
George II
(67,782 posts)The Congressional Districts in NYC have been changed so much and are so odd it's almost impossible to keep up with them.
Look at Jerry Nadler's 10th District - West Side of Manhattan, a skinny sliver along the docks of Brooklyn, then a big section of central Brooklyn. Nydia Velázquez' 7th District is just as bad - a tiny section of lower Manhattan and a strip snaking through Brooklyn and Queens.
Edit to add: that must really make Carolyn Maloney angry, she was very much in favor of it.
Dorian Gray
(13,850 posts)I live in BK and had been following the Amazon stuff closely, which is the only reason I had an inkling it wasn't in AOC's district. She has Astoria, which is right there, so it would make sense to think she's LIC, too. It's so confusing.
George II
(67,782 posts)Then we moved to Flushing, not far from the current District line between the 4th and 14th, lived there until my mid-20s. I may have been in the 14th at one time, who knows?
Look at poor Carolyn Maloney - she was in the 14th District for 20 years, now the 12th.
The 12th now stretches from the east side of Manhattan, Astoria, part of LIC, Greenpoint in Brooklyn and Roosevelt Island. Must be tough for her to keep track of her constituents. Most of it was the 14th at one time.
Makes your head spin!

(1,568 posts)Often times separating themselves from liberals and saying that liberalism is the problem. Odd seeing people on the left attack liberals and liberalism. I expect some of it from more extreme leftists, but it seems more common these days online. Not sure how much that represents the real world, though. I also question the motives of many of them. While I don't think they are all Russian/Chinese/whatever bots or right-wing provocateurs, I do wonder how much of the amplification of these messages are coming from such groups.

(60,186 posts)Its what they do and say that interests me. They can call themselves the Caucus of Democratic Aardvarks for all I care. Its whether they have the Democratic Partys interests at heart and thwarting the Republican Party as their major goals that I care about. If they want a yellow flag with a hammer and a pickle as their battle flag, I really am not bothered.

(1,568 posts)This is one of the biggest things that annoys me about politics today, and the way people use platforms like twitter. They make bold and often times inflammatory assertions, but then don't go into any details about how they came to their conclusions. It's as if people just throw out whatever thoughts come to their head without putting it through any examination. And then when pushed for an explanation, they deflect through various means.
