It's quite clear our country can't be both of these things simultaneously

We can be a country that is a bastion of pluralism, a nation of immigrants, a free haven for the refugee, etc.

Or we can be a country of conspiracy theorists, a nation of nepotists, and a world for the white nationalists and the white supremacists who are both the least supreme white people around.

What are we going to be?

What did we choose in the 2016 election?

if we run on "open borders" we will certainly lose.

if we can explain a rational process of immigration that does not replace citizens with cheap illegal labor the voters will certainly support us.

the current inhumane conditions disgust me and must stop. that can only happen if we win. and if we win we need to do something differently immediately. so lets not wait for a "transition team" and lobbyists to propose a solution. who is on the committee that funds these camps?

This can really be seen in whatever position we may have, Republicans will call that "open borders".

And what would be the point of human trafficking and smuggling if we did indeed have open borders? That would take away a reason for using them.

And fascism is a siren song to Republican ears right now. They hold most of the marbles at present; fascism (as they’re discovering) will enable them to hang onto those AND take even more. Not too far-fetched to see Republicans getting comfy with fascism, as the few who objected to 45 at first are either gone, or are now in his camp.

Which is why 2020 HAS to be a free and fair election. And every freedom-loving American has to vote Democratic. Otherwise, Amerlca’s cooked.
