Sherrod Brown says he was denied access to migrant detention facility

https://www.cleveland.com/politics/2019/07/sherrod-brown-says-he-was-denied-access-to-migrant-detention-facility.html

EL PASO, Texas – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, an Ohio Democrat, said Sunday during a tour of immigration facilities along the border that Customs and Border Protection had denied him access to several detention facilities.

The detention of migrants seeking refugee status – particularly some of the conditions they’re being kept in, as well as the separation of children from their families – has become a hot-button political issue. Brown said he asked for access to one of the facilities housing minors, but CBP declined.

“Pretty clearly, the attorney general and the president and the president’s cabinet don’t want the American public to know what they’re doing when they separate children from families,” Brown said during a press gaggle. “We weren’t able to see some of the things we should’ve seen. I guess they’re embarrassed by their behavior, the president, when he does this. But on the other hand, he seems to celebrate that this is a policy that he’s proud of.”

Brown said he wanted to visit one of the detention camps where children are being held – such as the notorious Clint, Texas facility about 30 minutes southeast of El Paso. CBP, which oversees the camps, would not allow it, Brown said.

Any Congress person should be able to tour any and all of them. They shouldn’t be getting any taxpayer money if access is denied to our Congress members, who represent the people. Stop the funding of these places.

Make the concentration camp state why it costs over $700 per day to house each person. This whole thing is obscene.
