Or has the past couple years been necessary to show voters what a fraud and a criminal tRump is? Not blaming Hillary Clinton because we know she actually won.
This question is along the lines of--what if JFK had not been killed, or Bobby?

(146,262 posts)Joe Biden's heart was not in it in 2016. The loss of his son weighed heavily on him, and he might not have been able to campaign as hard as he would need to.
Anyhow, Hillary Clinton won the popular vote. Had it not been for about 75,000 votes in three crucial states, she would have become President.

While it is true that Putin seems to have been particularly opposed to Clinton because of her human rights stands and her work on Russia sanctions, it would seem to me that Putin would also have preferred Trump to Biden.
The sealed indictments against Russian operatives provide a picture of the sweeping extent of Russian interference.
Remember that Russia began its secret work in 2014 and have continued it up to the present.
In 2016 they worked not only in the general election but in the primaries where Trump scored a totally unexpected victory rove a number of Republican candidates, and that they worked to promote the campaigns of both Bernie Sanders and Jill Stein.
I personally do not find the framing that had Clinton simply won a relatively small number of votes in a few states the outcome would have been different.

(146,262 posts)whether Biden would have won in 2016.
As for "framing," the fact is that if she had won those three states, she would be President. How that would have happened is open to question, but the fact is that if the numbers had been different, the outcome would have been as well.
The Russian activity in 2016 played a role, without a doubt. That activity could have been negated, though, had more Democrats turned out and voted in those three states. There's no framing involved, nor any denial of the Russian influence, which will probably exist in 2020 as well. That's why better GOTV needs to be used next year.

(25,183 posts)another, "If we show them what Trump is really like, he'll lose support" theme. If anyone didn't know what they were getting in 2016, right after the release of the Access Hollywood tape, they sure don't care about it now.
I do think that Biden would have won. He would have been coming fresh off of the successful Obama administration, and he didn't have Hillary's negatives.

(5,443 posts)At least that's what the polling seemed to indicate. Had he won the nomination he would have been Comey free and likely beaten Trump.

(34,857 posts)Only because Hillary would have won had it not been for the Comey Letter and, well, the e-mail scandal wouldn't have been a scandal with Biden. That really hurt Hillary. The way it was misrepresented in the media, coupled with the DNC hacked e-mails, just proved too toxic for her to overcome - and yet, she almost managed to anyway.
I think Biden likely wins Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan, maybe even Florida, and the White House.

(90,304 posts)... won with the level of penetration the Russians had into the 16 election.
To believe the level of penetration meant little to nothing is to believe water is dry and the earth is flat

(28,117 posts)He would've won Pennsylvania for sure. And would've showed up in the states Hillary didn't.
And he could've/would've been much more confrontational with Trump in the debates, never having to worry about appearing "bitchy."
Could he have sniffed out the ratfuckery going on? Perhaps.
My 2 cents.
