I'm old enough to remember bumperstickers in the 50's and 60's:

Keep your (symbol for heart) in America or get your (symbol for back end of a jackass) out

America: Love it or Leave It

Impeach Earl Warren

and others...

This sentiment is of course, hardly new. This malignant tinhorn Caligula has lowered the level of tolerance/acceptance to depths unseen since the MccArthy Era or the worst of the Vietnam War era. Actually even lower...America has great potential for rallying around the oppressed. Unfortunately it may have a GREATER potential for destroying the fabric of Civilization.

I will give this guy credit for one thing: he has taught me how to hate again. I'd almost forgotten how, but I hate him, his repulsive cadre of syncophants, and his equally disgusting family with a passion which rivals in intensity that of the first woman with whom I fell in love. I just want to live long enough to see the end of this and them.

but there is something new added now. Democrats. I live among Trumpers in central Pa. I served 2 terms on borough council in the 70's as a Democrat, our council was always evenly split. Our borough is only about 2,000 people, our big doings is our 4th of July parade and celebration. Back in the 70's we had a Republican Representative and a Democratic Representative riding in the parade in the same car. Those days are gone. Republicans have demonized Democrats. I would write letters to the editor in our local red neck newspaper. I would take on the editor of the paper. I remember he called me his pinko commie buddy. I should have kept writing those letters but my sanity couldn't take it any more. They added columns by Ann Coulter and what is truly disgusting are the right wing cartoons. I just wrote a final nasty letter to the newspaper and dropped my subscription. My Rep. is Glenn Thompson, he is worthless, even Trumpers don't like him but he has an (R) beside his name. Pa. doesn't get the publicity but it is really gerrymandered. I at least get to vote for state races.

Rant off.

How much more do we need to see before we realize that republicans simply cannot govern? Oh, they can CHEAT all right, and republican gerrymandering is what brought one-party rule to Ohio, a state where the voters are split 50-50. But they can't govern. The heavily republican Senate and House missed a budget deadline in June and now may miss the interim budget deadline tomorrow. Other vital bills are similarly stalled amid endless intraparty bickering. These are ALL REPUBLICANS. The state has ground to a halt.

republicans cannot govern.

because of public school desegregation. Brown vs. Board of Education was decided in May 1954, with Earl Warren as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

The bumper stickers I mainly remember from that time period were things like “I Climbed Pikes Peak” and “See Rock City.” As a kid, I would see giant billboards screaming ”Impeach Earl Warren” and think, “Who is Earl Warren? And what does impeach mean?”

that said "Impeach Earl Warren" that individual farmers had put up. As a kid I had no idea who Earl Warren was but thought he must be bad to see all those signs.

Rural America, against integration that would probably never affect them directly. Some things seem to not change much.

were sponsored across the country by the John Birch Society. Put them mostly in rural areas. At the bottom, it had a PO Box and request to send $5 for membership.

The racial hate he provokes is intended to create newsworthy incidents, like protests his Nazi regime can turn into riots, where minorities can be demonized.

There is no plan just do whatever you want and be an object of hate for the opposition. American alignment with brutal dictators is not new only we are now sliding deeper into the same brutality we observed and accused others of exhibiting.

I return the hate and only return it to relatives who get in my face. There is a huge pressure cooker simmering.

As were "Repent or Burn in Hell" signs. Sometimes one of each sign on the same tree or fence post.

And bigots like George Wallace, Lester Maddox, Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms, and Roy Moore running the show. Nothing much has changed.

They were fringe though back then, they only had radio quacks like Joe Pyne pushing far right nonsense....not a Cable Network pushing that hate daily.
