"On impeachment, Green forced the vote by reading his proposed articles of impeachment on Tuesday night.
He cited Trump's recent remarks about four Democratic congresswoman of color, which the House voted to condemn as racist on Tuesday, as cause for seeking the president's removal from office.
Trump's comments "have legitimatized and increased fear and hatred of new Americans and people of color," Green said Tuesday night on the House floor. "Donald John Trump, by causing such harm to the society of the United States, is unfit to be president and warrants impeachment, trial and removal from office."
Green had told reporters on Wednesday that he hoped the House would vote for impeachment, not to table or refer it to committee. He said "bigotry" qualified as a "high crime and misdemeanor."

(7,142 posts)should have sent it back to committee to add all of Trump's high crimes and misdemeanors from the Mueller report.
Trump will spin this that Dems voted with Republicans to kill impeachment.

(82,849 posts)Bigotry and prejudice aren't really illegal, and trying to make them illegal would run into a host of free speech arguments. Why not something concrete, like obstruction of justice or abuse of authority? There are plenty of examples of Trump obstructing justice by tampering with witnesses and advocating that they lie under oath. We got examples of abuses of authority out the wazoo. Being racist isn't really an impeachable offense, even if you really want it to be.

(82,849 posts)But proving that some unhinged nut was acting on Trump's orders or at his behest is a tricky case that even a veteran D.A. would hesitate to bring. Using it as the basis for impeachment would degenerate into a shoutycrackers debate. Now, if Trump said, "Oooh, I hate X so much! I wish someone - maybe one of you here - would just take an axe and split his / her skull wide open," followed by someone doing just that, then I'd back a charge of inciting violence. But it would have to be just about that obvious.
