Democrats need to be prepared.

Last edited Thu Jul 18, 2019, 10:38 AM - Edit history (1)

I think the Democrats need a plan.

I think there is no plan if they do not win back the White House. All of their eggs are in that basket.

It is very possible that the Republicans will keep the Senate and Donald Trump will keep the White House. But, I do not believe the Democrats will lose the House. It is possible that the political powers after the next election will be the same as they are today?

What should the Democrats do if that is the case?

In my opinion, the future is now. Democrats should prepare for a situation where they do not control the White House.

The situation will not get better - it will only deteriorate.

That is why I think the plan should begin immediately. Perhaps after the Mueller testimony next week?

In my opinion, the country cannot survive 5 1/2 more years of Donald Trump. We should not wait to see what the next election brings. It would be foolhardy.

The process of an impeachment inquiry should begin immediately. If Democrats do nothing, they should at least attempt to give the voters the facts. No American citizen should be allowed to say, "We didn't know."

Between now and the next election, the groundwork should be laid to impeach Donald Trump. We should not cower in fear and do nothing. That is not acceptable.

Circumstances will change between now and Election Day of 2020. They will most likely get much worse. The Democratic Party should gather all the facts and present them to the American people. They will make their own bed.

It would be unwise and unpatriotic to hold off impeachment proceedings just because the Republicans will not convict. That is upon them and the call of history. We must do what is best for the country and not the Democratic Party.

Just my opinion.

With many more Democratic voters than we care to admit. The Democratic Party is not monolithic and is subject to the same lies and propaganda as the Republicans. The reality is different from what we read on DU. That is why we need a plan. Get the facts out to the American people.

Except that we can't trust that our elections will free or fair.

Remember 2016? When everyone said "She's got this." over and over.

They don't want to rock the boat. They believe Democrats will win the White House in 2020. But, they have no plan if they don't.

Now, imagine what the GOP/Russians could get away with given the situation at DOJ and how all federal departments have been compromised.

Do you really think he'll just sit back and wait for the votes to be counted if he gets his nose ahead?

He's been grooming the public for 3 years about Fake News, etc. It's not going to be pretty, we can't let it be anywhere near close.

But I don't expect this to be a legitimate election. I expect the Russian hackers to be working extra hard this time around. In a legitimate election, I think we could run a ham sandwich against him and win in a landslide.

Democrats should be prepared to impeach after election of 2020, if they don't have the guts to do it now. It would be a plan.

Split ticket voting Isn't much of a thing anymore. If we don't turn out enough to win the WH- it probably means we are going to lose seats.

My fear is that apathy/frustration that is fed by Republican/Russian trolls and negative advertising could lower turnout.

I don't see a Republican landslide like the Democrats in 2018. If I were a betting man, I would bet the Democrats keep the House. But they should not be ready to wait 4 more years until the next election. They should be ready to begin impeachment proceedings on the first day after the next election.

If they have all the facts and still vote Trump and the Republicans, we have much larger problems than the next election. The Democratic Party would need to do a deep self-examination, in my opinion.
