GOP rattled by Trump rally

BY ALEXANDER BOLTON - 07/19/19 05:59 AM EDT

Republican lawmakers are feeling rattled after a long week capped by a raucous presidential rally where thousands chanted “send her back” at Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), a Somali refugee who became a U.S. citizen and one of the first Muslim women to serve in Congress.

President Trump distanced himself from the chant on Thursday, saying it made him unhappy and that he disagreed with it.

But he also did not seek to tamp down the chant when it happened on Wednesday night, and the crowd was clearly responding to Trump’s attacks on Omar and three other minority congresswomen he earlier in the week had said should go back to their home counties.

Three of the women were born in the United States, and while Republicans have blasted their progressive politics, many were uncomfortable at best with Trump’s choice of words.

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), the Republican presidential nominee in 2012 and now an elder statesman of the Senate, warned Thursday that the chants in North Carolina were “offensive” and would likely hurt his party’s image.

Guess I shouldn't be surprised after he sucked up to trump thinking he'd get a cushy position and trump dismissed him like the toilet paper on his shoe.

This IS your party, Mittens and if you're a member of it, you own it. He's yours. The only reason you care is because you can see your future designs on the office slipping away quickly.

We got nineteen year old Mormon kids coming to our door wanting to 'explain' the bible, or something, to us, and they are wearing name tags proclaiming to be 'elders'. Must be a Utah thing.

Rump is a fool if he thinks he can put that rot back in the bottle. I do not even thinks he wants to. He is hoping the MAGAT's go full berserk. All else is bullshit spin.

Fucking clear and present danger Rump is. He is laying the foundations for a massive race conflict that will surely go violent beyond anything so far. The white nationalists are so emboldened, they are riding a wave of hate.

If he is re-elected no way will the civil peace hold.

I believe the large majority of Trump supporters to be cowards. They talk shit but, when push comes to shove, no way they’ll pick up a weapon. Oh sure, there is the potential for some violence from scattered militia and neo-nazi groups but I doubt we’d see any large uprising.

but he whips people into a frenzy and people do end up getting killed, mass shootings being done by his followers.

But to agree with you he is a coward.

I found this article from BBC news how he went off the rails with the birther movement (saying Obama was not American), then walked all his accusations back.

I hated how the media covered his Klan rallies, because it was always from the angle of "wow! look at this great event held by a normal president!". I always thought they should only air the parts where the mob let their evil show, and where MF45 sounds as incompetent as he is. The angle should have been "Holy Shit! This racist asshole idiot is the president, and look at the dangerous mob he's inciting!!!"

Since Wednesday, it's been more like that. That's the only thing republicons care about, they're not going to change anything.

They’ve got reasons to be rattled about their future political careers. Some of them have reason to fear prosecution for corruption.

Despite Donnie’s and his little helpers’ efforts to institute banana-republican style governance here to the US, I still believe there is a majority of voters who are getting PO’d.

He can't back off because that would be showing weakness and his fragile ego cannot take the hit. They can't condemn him because the racist base will crucify them because they would be disavowing the following they have been cultivating.

It is interesting to see how long they can contort themselves or walk the tightrope.

It will also be interesting to see how far the media pushes on this as they have been known for having weak character as well.
