(26,848 posts)searching. As to Oliver Stone. He seems to have lost his shit. Some would claim it happened long ago. But I always thought he was a talented director.

(19,749 posts)I'm not talking about whether or not he's making interesting, entertaining, artistic, or otherwise enjoyable films. I'm talking about what he says and does in public -- what he says on camera for the world to see/hear.
For me, I'd have to say some time in the early 1990s, at the latest, I had concluded that he was a seriously aberrant weirdo. What exactly his deal is, I know not. But it is of long duration.

(53,410 posts)I seem to remember him being enamored of some South American dictator years and years ago. He was always kind of nuts in his paranoia.

(893 posts)He reviles Richard Nixon, whom he made an extremely unflattering movie about. Then he made a movie that was sympathetic toward George W. Bush, called W, seeing him as the dupe of his neo-conservative handlers, but basically decent. On the other hand, he does have a tendency to fall for conspiracy theories and charismatic con men. In the past it has been Jim Garrisson and Fidel Castro. Now it's Putin.

(1,568 posts)I could see him making a movie that portrays either Obama or Clinton is a mostly negative light. A quick search of Oliver Stone with either Clinton or Obama confirms this.
I wonder how twisted a Putin centered movie would be... I'd watch it out of curiosity.

(62,444 posts)A guy whose major accomplishment in life is introducing a generation to the conspiracy theories of an attention-seeking politician is fond of a master of propaganda to sow confusion and doubt?
Who knew.

(24,852 posts)To believe Stones propaganda you have to believe that not only did every crime and law enforcement entity in the world hate JFK and plan to kill him, but that they conspired together to do so. The outright lies in that flick are embarrassing.
And yet the majority of Americans take it as history. Boneheads.

(12,618 posts)And he's only gone further down the hole since. I used to really like him as a filmmaker, but he lost me around the turn of the century. That's also right around the time he stopped making successful movies.
