DENVER (AP) Republicans frustrated by losing their grip on political power in some Western states have begun deploying a new weapon: the recall.
Once reserved for targeting corrupt or inept elected officials, the recall has become part of the toolkit for Republicans seeking a do-over of election results. One GOP strategist in Colorado has put a name to it recall season.
To be sure, Democrats also have used recalls, most notably in Wisconsin, where they tried unsuccessfully to oust then-Republican Gov. Scott Walker in 2012 over his actions to weaken public sector unions.
But Republicans have been mounting recall efforts against Democratic state lawmakers and governors at an unprecedented rate over the past two years in a handful of Western states, at the same time their political fortunes in those states have been declining.
In 2018, they recalled a freshman state senator in California as a way to temporarily undo a Democratic supermajority.

(903 posts)When Republicans recalled Colorado state senators in 2013 over sensible gun regulations, they were successful removing 2 decent senators from office. When Democrats attempted to recall the worthless Walker in Wisconsin, they fell short.
Colorado, like Wisconsin, is a very purple state. Colorado might be slightly bluer than Wisconsin, but not by much. Republicans will come out in droves to vote over single issues, Democrats won't.
Republicans are more focused on their priorities than Democrats are. Same reason they'll vote for an ignorant asshole for pResident. They know what it means for the courts. I'm speaking collectively, of course. Some of us realize the importance, but numbers-wise, we're outmatched.

(15,351 posts)First, no one thought that the recall would work... and then, no one thought the recall would be successful.
Dems used both of those reasons to stay home. Now, gov Davis brought a lot of this on himself, but that CA recall that happened when I was stationed in Lemoore with the Navy taught me a lesson.
Democrats have lives to live and don't pay enough attention to Retrumplican shit like this... and Retrumplicans would sell their mothers to win political power.

After a couple of days of calling for two hours a day, I knew Davis would lose.
