Actually I didn't hear very many reporters/pundits use the word "lied" in desrcibing Ryan's speech. A lot of euphemisms like "stretched the truth" or "misled" were employed because, well, after all, win or lose they'll still have to deal with Ryan and they wouldn't want to piss him off by calling him what he is.
