On Monday, WOLO reported that a 16-year-old South Carolina student has been expelled from the Cardinal Newman School, banned from the property, and faces criminal charges following a violent, racial-slur-laden social media post in which he shoots a box of shoes representing black people.
Howdy. Im Parker Mustian, and I hate black prople, he can be heard saying in the video as he loads a rifle. Theyre the worst. Theyre stinky and they just suck. Theyre just bad people. Youll notice over there, theres a box of Jordans the favorite pair of shoes for a black man. Im gonna show you what I think of the black man.
According to Heavy, Mustian comes from a powerful political family. He is the grandson of Richard Quinn, a legendary GOP strategist, and the son of Benjamin Mustian, a prominent Columbia attorney.

He was first indicted in 2017 on charges of criminal conspiracy and illegal lobbying. It was alleged he tried to influence members of the general assembly on behalf of entities associated with him without registering as a lobbyist for those entities.
Quinn was arrested in April after being indicted on nearly a dozen charges of perjury and obstruction of justice.
As a political strategist, his clients have included S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, the late U.S. Sens. Strom Thurmond and John McCain, and Ronald Reagan. Grahams 2016 campaign hired Quinn as a strategist.

(37,113 posts)Sources close to Mustians family tell us the young man is not a hateful person by nature, but was part of a group of boys who made videos purely for shock value.
The idea was to see who could be the most outlandishly, ridiculously offensive, the source told us. They werent being serious.
Law enforcement took the situation very seriously, however.
Mustian was arrested last month by officers of the Richland County sheriffs department in connection with alleged threats made against the school.
According to deputies, Mustian threatened to shoot up the school after he was expelled for his involvement in racist videos and text messages.

"Richard Quinn has been quoted in the press as South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham's longtime political adviser and his consultant and pollster. But there's another title that Quinn once held: neo-Confederate magazine editor.
From early 1980s until the early 2000s, Quinn's name stood on the masthead as the editor-in-chief of the Southern Partisan, formerly one of the country's leading neo-Confederate magazines (it still exists in a barebones online version). Quinn has tried to distance himself from the magazine in the past (he says he doesn't like the term neo-Confederate), and after being contacted by BuzzFeed News, repudiated his past views and those of the magazine.
It was in his capacity as editor that Quinn wrote that Martin Luther King Jr.'s role in the Civil Rights movement was "to lead his people into a perpetual dependence on the welfare state, a terrible bondage of body and soul." He called Nelson Mandela a "terrorist" and a "bad egg." He wrote positively of David Duke's election: "What better way to reject politics as usual than to elect a maverick like David Duke?" In one column, he called Martin Luther King Day's purpose "vitriolic and profane."....(more)

...."As of this writing, my news outlet has not been provided with any of the additional videos and text messages referenced in this law enforcement narrative. They have been described to me, but I have not personally viewed them. Still, the nature of the initial videos and the fact Mustian was arrested in connection with the alleged threats made against his school seemed to me to constitute a compelling public safety concern.
Also, the ongoing uncertainty regarding Mustians access to firearms contributed to my decision to include his name in this news outlets coverage.
Simply put, I believed (and still believe) people had a right to know about a possible threat to public safety.
On this point, the failure of leaders at Cardinal Newman high school to notify parents of this combustible situation until the very last moment when reporters from The (Columbia, S.C.) Statenewspaper were preparing a report strikes me as inexcusably negligent on their part.
Furthermore, I am shocked other local media outlets have decided not to identify Mustian given the potential danger he posed (poses?) to his community."....(more)
