Words are important.
It is important that the problem be properly defined.
It is important not to let the other side define it.
I have noticed that Mayor Pete has called it "gun safety legislation". He seems to understand the importance of framing issues in the proper context.
It is important that we get military assault weapons off our streets. It is important that we get background checks on every purchase of guns in our society. It is important that we have "red flags" for those that should not own guns.
It is about gun safety, not gun control.

(5,835 posts)I have been arguing for "red flag" laws on another board. the nut jobs oppose these laws vehemently.

(1,288 posts)The right is so much better at good framing. We've gotten better at it, using the word protection more, rather than regulation.
