which is on the mainland - that's where the border between Hong Kong S.A.R. meets the PRC. It's doubtful that he is aware of this detail, in any case.

I was going to post that, too.

I went to Hong Kong in the early 1980s. A one-way first class ticket (mainland to island or vice versa) on the Star Ferry was astonishingly cheap (I seem to remember a mere 5 HK cents). It probably has changed a heck of a lot in the last 40 years.
