Police stop black man for 'looking suspiciously' at white woman

A Michigan man who was minding his own business walking into a restaurant has been stopped by police for "looking suspiciously" at a white woman.

The moment was captured in a Facebook Live video, which has since gone viral. In the video, captured by Kimiko Adolph, several police vehicles and officers can be seen questioning 20-year-old Devin Meyers and refusing to let him go.

In the video, Adolph can be heard saying:

He has been pulled over walking to go to eat for suspicion of being 'black' and looking at the Caucasian woman.

They got him surrounded. So I’m not going to leave the brother out here.

she should be charged with wasting LEO time. he should bring a harassment suit against her and the police.

Crap like this should be PUNISHED, not dismissed as "no harm done." He should take that white woman for every cent she has or ever hopes to have, a la O. J. Simpson, and the city of Royal Oak should also compensate him and fire those cops.

Witness: Royal Oak police handled encounter with black man 'inappropriately'
Ann Zaniewski, Detroit Free Press
Published 6:00 a.m. ET Aug. 15, 2019 | Updated 9:15 a.m. ET Aug. 15, 2019

Royal Oak police have launched an internal investigation after officers stopped and questioned a black man reportedly because a white woman said he looked at her suspiciously.

Critics say the police response was aggressive and over the top. A video of the encounter, which happened Tuesday evening outside the Inn Season Cafe, is circulating on social media.

The man was walking to the restaurant when an officer pulled up and began asking him questions, Inn Season manager Erin Frey told the Free Press. Three other officers also responded to the scene.

The man was questioned for almost an hour before he was told he was free to go, Frey said.

about him? I feel really bad for what happened to this poor kid. It'd be interesting to know if, having responded, the police had options other than to question and run a background check on him and how complaints against white "suspicious lookers" are handled.

But, again, where's the woman? What's HER name, because it sounds like she's the troublemaker here. Glad others supported him.

The officer says “who called?” And the woman in the white vehicle parked across the street is identified. He ignores it. Frey says she saw Myers and all he was doing was “actually just trying to park his car.” She says the whole incident has “lasted so long,” as the officer calls it “nonsense.”

He says all Myers had to do was say that he was just parking his car minding his own business. He did repeatedly, the officer was told but was nonetheless held by several officers despite having said he had done nothing wrong and had just been parking his car to go eat in the cafe. When they kept him surrounded on the street, he asked for a supervisor, Frey said.

Once again, my white privilege is exposed. The cops would never be standing there asking me questions like that.

Frey said the incident began with the man trying to find a parking spot on the street across from the Inn Season. She said he waited for the woman to pull out of her parking space. When she didn't leave, he eventually drove away and found another spot elsewhere.

After parking his car, the man was walking to the restaurant, where his girlfriend was waiting inside, when the first officer pulled up in a vehicle. The officer parked partially on the sidewalk, exited the vehicle and began asking the man questions, Frey said.

A bystander named Kimiko Adolph recorded the incident and posted the video on Facebook. The video captures only the final minutes of the encounter, Frey said.

Back then a black man could get beaten or even killed for looking at a white woman.
That this guy was stopped and questioned in Michigan in this day and age is very disturbing.
Trump has given permission for, and even encouraged, these kinds of expressions of hate all over the country.
It's got to stop.

The video, recorded and narrated by Kimiko Adolph, shows several police vehicles and officers questioning 20-year-old Devin Meyers and refusing to let him go.

“He has been pulled over walking to go to eat for suspicion of being Black and looking at the Caucasian woman,” Adolph says, as she points her phone toward the officers. “They got him surrounded. So I’m not going to leave the brother out here.”

Adolph told the Daily Dot that she was on her way to a nearby CVS but chose to stop and intervene after seeing Myers surrounded by the cops.

“I have three black sons, and he was by himself, surrounded for no reason,” she said. “Nobody was filming, and I knew I had to.”

Adolph joined Inn Season Cafe manager Erin Frey to defend the young man.

Even though it is hard to decipher everything Meyers says to the police in the video, he can clearly be heard explaining that he was on his way to meet his girlfriend at the cafe when they stopped him based on a report that he looked “suspicious.” He also says that the police would have certainly let him go had he been white.

Does anyone remember the viral video of white MIDDLE SCHOOL pre-teens standing on their school lunch tables shrieking, "Build the wall!" Remember? Yeah...Royal Oak, MI.

Does anyone remember hearing about a grafitti crime spree of swastikas and white supremist hate speech sprayed in red across the garages and cars of a small Michigan bedroom community? Remember? Yeah...Royal Oak, MI.

BTW, in the above grafitti incident, local police vowed to catch & prosecute perpetrators to the fullest extent...blah, blah, blah. Yet, when they did end up arresting at least one of the young white men responsible (actually, they arrested only the one having Asian descent), a statement was issued that the perp would not be prosecuted for hate speech. They said this was because the 20-year-old was "mentally ill" and that, believe it or not, his incendiary racist vandalism, in their opinion, was not motivated by hate. Yeah...that Royal Oak, MI.

Today, local police vowed to investigate the officers involved in this latest incident...mm-hmm.

Actually, what I'm most curious about in this whole story is whether the son of the idiot white woman (reported to have been in the car with her) just so happens to be one of those middle-schoolers. He'd be, what, midway through high school now? Anybody on the watch for a "mentally ill" Royal Oak shooter-in-the making? Just askin'...
