Clint Eastwood had to have been either drunk or trolling....

I mean really.

A never ending ramble directed towards an empty chair?

He was either really shitfaced, or he went to Tampa with the sole intent of ruining the convention.

There is no way that could have been a serious speech. As a Clint Eastwood fan I refuse to believe it!

the bigger question is, who the hell booked him and why?

And what were they thinking allowing him to ad lib in prime time on the biggest night of the convention?

The whole thing just boggles the mind.

I have been - like most people - laughing my ass off in total disbelief at that performance... but yes, really.

I dunno, but if Clint really did pull off some kind of stunt (a la Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman a couple of years ago, when he showed up heavily bearded, disheveled and rambling) aimed at 'punking' the Repukes in some bizarro, 'performance art' sort of way... then he nailed it and the joke's really on us.

I didn't think Clint was that good an actor. I still don't, however intriguing it may be to consider his whole performance as one giant put on.

Damn funny, though. Thanks for the laughs, Mr. Callahan.

Only married two. I agree. WTF were they thinking? Pandering to low information hero worshipers is my guess. Yeah- these are the people who can do a better job than Obama et al. Right.

Here's what I think:

I think the Democrats best not dismiss Eastwood as just another older guy who doesn't make much sense. There are quite a few voters out there in his age bracket that don't need to hear that a person of his age is past their prime, and need not to be speaking out.

Clint did his thing (whatever it was). Let it go. It will have all been forgotten by November...unless a big deal is made regarding oldsters voicing their opinion.

Despite misreporting on the Internet and misleading video titles on Youtube, Eastwood never backed Ron Paul, even when given direct opportunities to do so because of their shared libertarian views, some of which came through last night in terms of foreign policy and overseas wars. You can see Eastwood's most recent refusal to embrace Paul here, in a video from earlier this year:

I guess that Ron Paul's brand of states' rights libertarianism, extreme stances (such as simply abolishing a bunch of major government departments), and racist associations proved too much for Eastwood. But Eastwood certainly sounded like Ron Paul on foreign policy last night.

According to Mark Halperin, the Time reporter and MSNBC political pundit, Eastwood's performance was based on "A Night at the Improv" skit from Amsterdam.
