(11,860 posts)I have of course seen their criticism. I want to see them demand resignation. Just like the rethugs did to Clinton.
It was the word, resignation, that moved the needle with the MSM at the time and forced the impeachment. I believe that word can move the needle for us now.
Agree or disagree. That is my opinion.
Eliot Rosewater
(31,109 posts)Rump, because of the FILTHY 45 million who follow him, has made it meaningless for a decent politician to challenge him and ask him to resign.
I think our people consider it a waste of time, but 127 of them now are saying MORE Than that by asking for impeachment.
Here is the simple reality, as long as that many Americans are willing to support a fascist traitor, the party not in power can do nothing especially if the Justice Dept is gone, and it is.
But yes, I would love for them to do that and more too. But BLAMING them even slightly is the LAST thing any of us should do.

(11,860 posts)I dont view this as blame, but rather exhortation.

(12,712 posts)That begs the serious and important question: What are we, (you, anyone) going to DO about it?
It seems that it can be important to nip things in the bud. The earlier you catch a problem, the easier it is to solve. When it gets too big, it may be too late.
It's starting to look like a very dire and critical situation. If we prognosticate about the continuation and increase of the current behaviors, it seems that has come down to a radical juncture and there needs to be action, not just words.

Seriously though, do you think we could even GET the kind of turnout like in Hong Kong? Or would it lead to the civil war that they all seem to WANT?
I'm so fucking OVER allowing our "checks & balances" to work themselves out, especially when HALF of those in Govt have apparently sold out.
I guess our country is gonna go down like the planet...in flames...
I honestly don't have anything left. Every day it's another disaster or 20... Most of us are fucking exhausted and helpless by now. AT least I know I am

(12,712 posts)In college, this poem was a part of an English class I was taking. The imagery, (despite the religious connotations) is rather stark and apropos. The spirit of it seems to fit these times well.
William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)
THE SECOND COMING
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

(6,916 posts)Chuck could bring all the Senate Dems back to DC to vote on the background check bill. Do it in a hotel room if McConnell denies you the Senate building. But just think of the media impact the POLITICAL impact that would have. Why isnt Chuck doing that? Its within his power. And Senate Dems want it.
Life_Long_Democrat
(81 posts)Only McConnell can call the Senate back into session.

Youre saying in this post theres nothing to do. Thats a rightwing talking point: they wish to spread despair, saying there is nothing we can do. Please dont do that! Be constructive.
Chuck can easily do what I said. This would be an effective political move, because politics is tightly related to public messaging. This would be public messaging, and thus useful and effective.
In fact, call your Dem sens and suggest this, and I will too.

NY Post is designed by Murdoch to hurt Democrats.
He often does that by WHAT he chooses to report as much as the content. By choosing issues that reflect poorly on Democrats, selective reporting can harm Democrats even if that story doesnt include a lie.

Bring the Dems back. Vote on the background check bill. It wont pass. It will be a show for the cameras. THAT IS THE POINT.
Republicans are beating us because they are better at shows for the camera. They are better at exploiting the media. DO BETTER CHUCK.

(29,236 posts)This is a huge vote motivator for the rethugs. Just as LGBT societal acceptance was vastly improved once stories of individuals and the injustices they faced was pinballing around the country, so too we need to make the plight of these immigrants common fare in our communications... get the gory facts into the media as clickbait, even, we absolutely have to humanize them to the public at large in order to counter the rights faux outrage.

The NY Post is poisonous propaganda.

So keep preaching Senator, even if it is only to the choir, because if the full choir shows up, we will send them all back to the rocks from under which they crawled.
