They kicked Russia out because they illegally invaded another country--against the warnings of the rest of what was the G8 at the time. Their economy is also in shambles. It's no longer even in the Top 10. (The state of California has a bigger economy than Russia.) That just made it easier for the G7 to dump them. The US is the world's largest economy, and just because it's being run by a nutjob isn't enough to get us kicked out.
