(81,485 posts)Violations at the Presidents crown jewel and Manhattan residence Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue are perhaps the most gag-inducing.
City Department of Health inspectors visited the towers cafe and grill on July 11, 2018 and found evidence of mice or live mice in and around the kitchen, according to records that havent previously been reported. The inspectors categorized the violation as critical.
The Trump Tower eatery has been written up for various health code violations every year since 2014, including sightings of live roaches in 2016 and filth flies in 2017. But inspectors have not until now found mice tracks at the posh establishment.

(36,793 posts)But a former business associate told the Daily News that despite being a self-described clean hands freak and germaphobe, Trump has always been far more focused on creating an image for his properties than in spending what it takes to make them excellent.

(86,595 posts)is probably why he's a germaphobe... don't touch anything or you'll have to wash up. I stay away from places like that.

(24,284 posts)but I would run out of a room that Trump walked into.
So would I...
before getting arrested for speaking my mind about the emperor. And I'd would avoid any town that let him have property there.

(14,966 posts)if he had any impulse control. In and out of the news cycle in one day, drowned out by his disgraceful G7 behavior or whatever comes tomorrow. But he just. had. to. tweet. That by itself will get another day or two of coverage. Plus now we have evidence that it gets under his skin, meaning anti-Trumpists will repeat it just for that purpose -- and he'll angrily deny it again, etc.
Now everyone is going to associate "Doral" with "bedbugs" for the foreseeable future. Good job, Dummy Donald.

(6,212 posts)I think a great spot for G7 if it's here next year would be Biltmore in Ashville, NC.

(27,556 posts)when my immigrant wife landed in the USA for the first time.
I booked 5 a star through Priceline (it was a blind deal) but I would call Trump Doral just Meh!... Nothing special unless you are a golfer. Accommodations were only about 3-4 star in my opinion.
That's a big deal what you are really wanting is something special to welcome your wife to America.
I just laughed when I heard he wants to hold the G7 there. Really??? Really????
No bedbugs when I was there...

(32,638 posts)Did anyone notice the dates given in this news story? Yes there were bedbugs, and the guy had proof. He sued the hotel in 2016 and accepted a settlement 3 years ago. Presumably the hotel management has fixed the problem by now. If they hadn't they'd be out of business. Have there been any other lawsuits recently?

(11,949 posts)The quality, price or cleanliness are not a good indicator of bedbug infestation. If a guest within a month of your stay brought in bedbugs you will likely get them and may well take them home. They are very hard to kill and most housekeepers dont know what to look for. Although that is changing.
The return of bedbugs is caused by 2 things mainly. The increase in foreign travel and the banning of the pesticides, mainly pyrethrums that were routinely sprayed, liberally in most hotel rooms. That right, until a decade or so ago your hotel room got monthly baseboard sprays of poison!
So now they are back and harder than hell to kill. But you are your best defense against them. Anytime you go into your hotel room leave your luggage outside. Pull back the sheets and mattress cover looking for little black stain spots on them. Thats dried blood poop which they eat. Next, check along the piping on the mattress for the actual critters. You can see them! About the size of a match head. Also if the hotel bed is attached to the wall look at the seam where the wallpaper meets the head board. It a favorite place for them to hide. If you see them, leave. No other option.
If you discover the hotel has them it is not the end of the world unless you bring them home. And they do not live on people but clothes. If you live in s climate like I do in Florida you have an advantage. Spread you clothes and luggage around your car. Strip naked in the garage and put on clean clothes from your house. Then add those clothes in your car. Leave them for 2 days. Temperatures over 140 F kill all stages of the in 20 minutes. You can also use your dryer but that adds the risk of a few escaping before entering the dryer. Maybe bag them up outside and dump the straight in the dryer.
Sorry for the long post, but we are going to have to learn to live with these guys being around unless we want to return spraying pesticides in our hotels.
Luckily, bedbugs carry no diseases.
