(63,221 posts)What is Yoko doing knitting with a blindfold on? Is it supposed to be symbolic or something?

(2,643 posts)Or the 3 greek fates, knitting out the future.
Consistently portrayed as three women spinners, each of the three Fates had a different task, revealed by her very name: Clotho spun the thread of life, Lachesis measured its allotted length, and Atropos cut it off with her shears. Sometimes, each of the Fates was assigned to a specific period of time: Atropos the past, Clotho the present, and Lachesis the future.
Karma, another name for "cause and effect" -- that which we reap, we may also sow. We are all part of the cloth of history, woven together by our actions.
It also brings to mind Madame Defarge in Dicken's Tale of Two Cities.
In classical mythology, three sister gods called the Fates controlled the threads of human lives. A Tale of Two Cities adapts the classical Fates in two ways. As she knits the names of her enemies, Madame Defarge is effectively condemning people to a deadly fate. On the other hand, as Lucie weaves her "golden thread" through people's lives, she binds them into a better destiny: a tightly-knit community of family and close friends. In each case, Dickens suggests that human destinies are either predetermined by the force of history or they are tied into a larger pattern than we as individuals realize.
Hope this helps get your karmic wheels a-turnin'...

(2,643 posts)Even more if she'd been wearing a gag, seeing as how she was so often told to shut up by rock n roll assholes, right? You might have been picking up on that too.
No single correct interpretation of art, and all that. Thanks for the exchange!

(4,291 posts)The thought of moving to another country has crossed my mind.
And if Putins puppet is re-elected, I will start making plans. I will not hang around to watch my beloved nation become the extension of Russias scheme to regain global prominence.
Which country? Thats a great question to ask other like-minded patriots who also believe our government has abandoned them.
Canada is nearby, but cold and expensive.
Likewise most European countries (and then theres the language barrier).
Central or South America? Cheap, but not too stable (unlike the USA). And the language thing, too.
Caribbean island nations? Let me get back to you after the current hurricane season.
Australia or New Zealand? Perhaps, assuming theyd accept immigrants from here.
Bottom line: We need to get out the vote next November. In overwhelming numbers. And take to the streets if our votes are not counted accurately.

(11,730 posts)Fascism. It is simple enough. Fascists are hierarchical people. The first tier in the pyramid is typically racial, but equally important is wealth. People do not understand that being White is important but is sometimes not enough. You can be White and still be considered a degenerate or race-traitor and be outcast.
Fascism is never sustainable because the system is predicated on purity and the hierarchy always narrows so that allies in the beginning are then considered subhuman in the later stages of the movement. Fascism cannot succeed because it always eats itself. The problem is that ALOT of people get hurt and killed along the way.
