I have been struck by the photos of the utter devastation in the Bahamas from Hurricane Dorian. It is unbelievable what people are facing to recover there. I have fond memories of several trips to the Bahamas and the beauty of the islands and friendliness of its citizens.
For the last couple of nights either Rachel or Lawrence O'Donnell have had phone interviews with various Ministers from the government of the Bahamas describing what they are facing. Yet I was surprised to not hear any summary of how an individual could help.
There are lots of ways to help. Lots of reputable organizations on the ground. There is even an effort to find pilots willing to volunteer flying relief missions. Any experienced pilot can apply here: https://solrelief.org/dorian/#pilot
I am going to provide links to several articles which will summarize many ways to contribute to the relief effort and provide links.

The Bahamas National Emergency Management Agency is currently accepting cash donations via check or wire transfer. They are in the process of setting up the ability to accept donations via credit card and expect to have that operational by Monday, Sept. 9.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
