https://www.palmerreport.com/analysis/air-force-just-threw-donald-trump-under-the-bus/20674/Mike Pences decision to stay at a Trump resort on the taxpayer dime has set off a chain of events, making it possible for the media to expose that the Air Force has been pumping money into a Trump-owned property as well. Now things have escalated, prompting the Air Force to throw Trump under the bus.
Earlier this weekend it was reported that Air Force crew members stopped at Donald Trumps Turnberry property in Scotland for what couldnt possibly have been above-board reasons. This led the House Oversight Committee to immediately launch an investigation into why the U.S. military was improperly lining Trumps pockets.
In response, the Air Force has confirmed to Politico that seven Air Force crew members did indeed stay at Turnberry in March of this year. Its not difficult to figure out why the Air Force is throwing Trump under the bus so quickly. Whatever he did as Commander-in-Chief to coerce Air Force personnel into spending money at his resort, hes sullied the reputation of the United States military in the process.
Donald Trump will no doubt attempt to interfere with any Air Force effort to formally cooperate with the House Oversight Committee probe. But by publicly confirming that the incident did indeed happen, the Air Force is signaling to Congress that its eager to provide information about this Trump scandal by any unofficial means possible.

The story was that this was a regular ongoing thing.

(3,493 posts)Don't know yet how many times troops stayed at the Scottish Golf resort, but "The US military has stopped at Prestwick Airport 629 times since October 2017" https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7438631/Military-spent-11m-refueling-airport-near-Trumps-golf-resort-troops-stayed-overnight.html
Sounds pretty ongoing, if not 'regular'.

(7,134 posts)Maximum hotel reimbursement rate for official USG travel in the Glasgow area is $160/night. Assuming that a night's stay at the Trump property is at least $300, that's $140 that each airman would be out of pocket. No wonder someone squealed to Congress! Dear Leader just picked their pockets.

(39,171 posts)There is what they call the 300% rule that covers situations where per diet doesnt cover the room rate. The military member is not expected to cover the difference if they are not given a choice.

(10,952 posts)If you exceed that, you are supposed to be responsible for the difference. I work for a state agency and we have to follow the GSA rates. If you attend a conference you can stay at a designated hotel at no extra cost. There is no way this Scotland stop should qualify for any exception to the GSA rates. This should also apply to Pence's trip and all the SS costs when they go to a Trump property.

They should summon these military leaders up to Capitol Hill immediately and get the facts. Everything he touches dies....or is corrupted. Now it appears it is the US military.

(7,134 posts)--that USAF threw Trump under the bus. DOD will find plenty of Trump flunkies to spin, obfuscate, obstruct, and cover up. The seven airmen will be pressured into keeping their mouths shut or else... career-ending consequences will ensue.

(328 posts).. according to country and area. Trump's bedbugs would charge a huge amount more. The service member is expected to swallow the difference, as an incentive to not spend more of Uncle Sam's money than necessary.
The contracting officers might hide the fuel costs at the airport, but a few extra hundreds or a thousand out of the pocket of some Lt or E5 is gonna hurt a lot.
Someone blew the whistle to Polico to reveal what was going on. Betcha it was someone who cant spend like a billionaire.

(45,052 posts)it will happen again and no one will complain. Tight on time. Air Force says nothing unusual.
As our air crews serve on these international airlift missions, they follow strict guidelines on contracting for hotel accommodations and all expenditures of taxpayer dollars," Air Force Brig. Gen. Ed Thomas said in a statement. "In this case, they made reservations through the Defense Travel System and used the closest available and least expensive accommodations to the airfield within the crews' allowable hotel rates. While we are still reviewing the trip records, we have found nothing that falls outside the guidelines associated with selecting stopover airports on travel routes and hotel accommodations for crew rest."
The Air Force said the crew on the March 13 consisted of seven active duty and National Guard crew members, adding that although they stayed at Turnberry en route to Kuwait, "it doesn't appear" they did so on the trip back to the US.
The Air Force said the Turnberry resort was less expensive than a nearby Marriott and that both were under the per diem rate of $166. The Air Force also said it schedules stopovers based on such factors as leg distance and contract fuel availability.
Crews use a commercial airport -- Prestwick in Glasgow -- when they stop for refueling in Scotland.
