Seems like every idiot I'm seeing on MSNBC this morning
is presenting this Camp David Taliban meeting as if it was a real thing that was actually scheduled to take place today. Very disappointing.

15. More Americans will die after Trump abruptly ends Afghan talks, Taliban say
The Islamist group issued a statement after Trump unexpectedly canceled secret talks planned for Sunday with the Taliban’s major leaders at the presidential compound in Camp David, Maryland. He broke off the talks on Saturday after the Taliban claimed responsibility for an attack in Kabul last week that killed an American soldier and 11 others. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-afghanistan/taliban-says-trumps-decision-to-cancel-afghan-talks-will-mean-us-lives-lost-idUSKCN1VT05L |

4. Trump was furious that
The Obama Administration was negotiating with the Talibam but the Afghan Government was there, too.
But I do not believe there was any meeting planned. I think it is all in Trump’s mind. Staff says he is like a bull seeing red in private. He is a raving maniac fearing he is going down. |

3. I see it differently.
They don't have the reporting and information yet to call it out as a lie. For now, the responsible thing to do is to treat it at face value while journalist do the investigating into the meeting. If they uncover that this was a fabrication that Trump made up in his head on the fly, then they can tell us that.
In the meantime, I think it would be foolish for them to get on television and treat it as a lie. If it would turn out to be true, in some form, it would damage their own credibility and give Trump further fodder for his "fake news' bullshit. That may even have been his goal in the first place. |

7. Yep! Even if there is only a slight amount of truth to it, the press...
will be crucified for calling it fake without evidence..
Let them find whatever there is about this "meeting" and tell us what they found. |

12. Besides, it doesn't help Trump to be seen as wanting to bring the Taliban to Camp David so close to
9/11, and to be negotiating a surrender to them while excluding the actual, supposedly U.S. supported, Afghan government (yet including Russia!). Whether the meeting was real or not, he looks bad either way, not to mention the whole blabbing about a sensitive "secret" meeting part.
Also, the idea of negotiating without even a cease-fire in pace looks really incompetent. |

8. There would be nothing wrong with them demanding proof it was going to happen.
So far only Trump lackeys like Pompeo are being offered as proof. And it would also be legitimate to report on those doubting it, which they don't seem to be even mentioning.
They are totally normalizing it without any facts to back it up. |

9. Agree. tRump is kind of a master at putting the press in a position where they somewhat have to
normalize him -- though they could demand evidence. But even then, he'd just scream and ridicule them as "fake news" in answer to those questions. THere's no winning without pretty iron-clad proof of a lie frankly.

13. If the press is going to let him yelling "fake news"
guide how they cover their stories, they might as well just close up shop and declare him president for life.
Fuck what he says. He doesn't have 1/1000th of the credibility that American journalism has, except with his knuckle-dragging worshippers. |

11. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
If Trump claims to have built a nuclear-powered suit of armor that gives him the strength of 50 men and flies at supersonic speeds, we’re going to need more than a supporting statement from Pence to believe it.

...that he built such a suit in a cave using a box of scraps than it is to believe that he's schedule a meeting at Camp David instead of one of his properties where he can pocket the lion's share of the event budget.

MSNBC was one of the first channels to legitimize Trump, every morning he would call in and they would give him a free hour infomercial.
