Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDo you think we will have a record turn-out in 2020 election?
People will be so fired up that we may hit 60-70% turnout?
People are pissed off and they will get their revenge at the polls?
Or...
Will people be so beaten down that they will just blow it off?
I think there is a danger of the latter. The average voter may turn it off, tune it out, and turn on?
We hope that doesn't happen but we don't really know.

(17,396 posts)Yes we could see record turnout.
On the other hand, if we nominate a "safe", Status Quo/Normalcy candidate, turnout could be suppressed, especially among young voters. If we can dramatically increase youth turnout, WE WILL WIN.
(Cue fear based defeatists who insist young voters should be ignored because of their pattern of low turnout, despite the fact that young voters are the most powerful untapped voting bloc in the country, in 3,2,1...)

(23,566 posts)to send a strong message to this scumbag and crook to leave and face his judgment. I see this sentiment in almost everybody I talk to. Rump is despised by just about everyone I talk to and viewed as a joke too.

(25,183 posts)fasten your seatbelt for 2020. Each side will attack the other one mercilessly. That often tends to turn people off, but that was in the pre-Trump past. Anything's possible now.
If anyone thinks that Trump's supporters won't come out, they have more reasons than ever to do so in 2020. I'm sure that there were lots of them in blue states who were certain that Hillary was going to get their state's electoral votes, they know that they need to turn out to overcome the popular vote margins from California, New York, etc. Not that it would make a difference in the outcome, but to take away Democratic arguments of "Our side had three million more votes, your side is illegitimate."
Besides, whoever gets the Democratic nomination will be fully demonized by the GOP all the way to Election Day.

(55,942 posts)My prediction is that the Republican voting rights suppression machine will be such a massive effort, we will never find out how many legitimately eligible voters were denied their right to vote. From Native Americans in South Dakota to Blacks in Georgia to Districts known to be heavily Democratic in Ohio, North Carolina, Florida and Arizona, my bet is that if Republicans will pull out all stops to prevent Democrats from voting--and if they do vote, for their votes to either not be counted, or to be counted wrongly (i.e. for Republicans).
And don't think this is something they will get started on next February. This is something they got started on LAST February. Or before.
