The president claimed it cant be climbed and was tested by pros, but climbers say thats unlikely
----
In fact, the president claimed, the government enlisted professional world-class mountain climbers to test different wall designs and evaluate which would be the toughest to scale. We have, I guess you could say, world-class mountain climbers. We got climbers, Trump said. We had 20 mountain climbers. Thats all they dothey love to climb mountains Theyre very good, and some of them were champions. And we gave them different prototypes of walls, and this was the one that was hardest to climb.
But actual professional climbers tell a different story. Not only do they doubt that any professionals, let alone twenty of the top mountain climbers in the game, would aid the Trump administration in a task like this, they also say the wall would not be difficult to scale.
The Daily Beasts Scott Bixby spoke with numerous members of the climbing community, and they all denied involvement or even knowing of anyone who was or would be involved in helping the government keep immigrants from crossing the border.
I have never heard of any climbers ever being recruited to try and climb a border wall, said Jesse Grupper, who won gold at the 2019 USA Climbing Sport & Speed Open National Championships.
Another climber and second-ranked U.S. womens boulderer, Kyra Condie, said, I absolutely have not heard of anyone testing sections of border wall. It would even be hard to find any of us willing to do anything to help Trump and his efforts in any way.
Some even questioned whether mountain climbers were the best people to conduct such a test. It makes sense that they would want people to test it out, but mountain climbers would not be the people to do it, rock climber Ross Fulkerson, who ranks third in the nation, said. Rock climbers would be far better suited for such a test given we constantly practice climbing up vertical and overhanging walls.
And others scoffed at the idea that the wall was impossible to climb. Mitsu Iwasaki, executive director of mountaineering organization Mazamas, told The Daily Beast, If its the slat wall behind him when he made the comment, it looks like it would be easy for a professional rock climber to get up and over.

(28,979 posts)He gave a speech up there. Mexican congressman Braulio Guerra sits atop the U.S.-Mexico border wall that divides Tijuana from the US.
"You can climb it with great ease, one climbs in an instant," Guerra says in the video. "I climbed it in Tijuana, one of the highest parts, even from a distance this looks very complex, but there are young people that go up and down, at all times."

Mexican congressman Braulio Guerra recently climbed the fence along the U.S.-Mexico border to demonstrate what he says is the futility of U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to build a wall between the two countries to stem migration. Guerra, who represents the state of Queretaro, 218 km (135 miles) north of the capital Mexico City, said on a video filmed by his office that it was easy for him to climb the fence and he just as easily could have crossed to the United States. "I am on the wall, sitting on the wall that divides the border between Mexico and the United States. On this side is Mexico. On this side is the United States. And you can see that in these 8 meters-- more or less 8 to 10 meters -- it is easy to climb up. I could get up, climb up, scale it and sit here. It would be very easy to cross into the United States which proves that it is totally unnecessary and absurd to build a wall costing 15 billion dollars or 300 billion pesos," he said.

(31,970 posts)I don't know if they will be able to climb the new prototype or not but that picture is not it. The fact is most walls will stop most people. Everyone, no. "Professional climbers", no But that is not the purpose of the wall.
The wall Israel has built to stop terrorism in Jerusalem has stopped the daily attacks that were occurring.

(31,261 posts)he was lying as soon as his lips started moving.
A person that free-climb can scale that wall without breaking a sweat.
The "wall" is a total waste or money. It is much cheaper and economically advantageous for us to work out a sane guest worker policy where people can come here for work, go home and come back as long as they obey laws.

and then use a crossbow to fire a line over the fence and zip line to the US.

He's projecting again. He means that HE can't climb it.
He also underestimates the resilience of the Mexican people.

(1,517 posts)I see the statistic that he has told 10000 then 12000 lies since assuming office.
I think it would be far more revealing to try and count how many times he has told the truth. I believe that the number would be close to 0.
Much of the time he is telling neither lies nor the truth, but spouting unintelligible gibberish.

(49,445 posts)It was a couple of pieces of bent rebar bolted to a pair of sandals.
Clip each sandal to a slat. The way the rebar is bent, the sandal can be lifted up easily, but downward pressure binds the sandal up so it can't move.
So, left leg up, right let up, left leg up, right leg up. Like walking up steps.
Hell, I could do it, and I'm definitely not a rock climber.
