I'm glad an impeachment inquiry is happening, but the fact that Bill Barr was actively complicit in this Ukraine scandal and that Republicans are all defending this just makes me feel hopeless for this country.
The entire Republican party is an organized crime syndicate and none of Trump's allies can face real consequences since Barr is in charge of prosecution.

(7,660 posts)Don't be depressed. Actually this is not a lot different that the past with the exception that Trump and his supporters are more publicly nasty. I've always said and it has always been true....."Never underestimate the nastiness of white people". These are the same folks that tied someone to a tree and whipped them with a bull whip - there is not limit to what they will do for financial gain or power.
I hope they impeach him (they have enough Dems in the House) and be done with it. He is not going to be removed and actually I think Pence would be a more viable candidate than Trump going into 2020. He (Pence) and the crazy religious nuts are in a category all by themselves.

(2,574 posts)But as of yesterday, I decided I am tuning them out 100%.
Nancy has modeled this behavior--tuning out the morons, tuning out the detractors, tuning out everyone who accused her of being weak and slow and useless.
I will never be Nancy, but I can work the muscles of tuning out the noise and staying focused on what the smart people are saying.
The corrupt morons can't have our souls if we don't let them.

(30,761 posts)First of all, we can't lose hope. That is difficult. We must believe that our country and our democracy will make it through this and make the necessary changes so that we will not have another orange monster.
And we must act on whatever level we can. Yesterday, I circulated my nominating petition in my precinct so that I can continue as precinct committeeman. It is a lowly, unglamorous job, but I GOTV and my neighbors and friends come to me for information.
I also circulated a nominating petition for someone who is running against our teahadist congressman. I believe she has a chance of beating him this time around.
This evening, I am going to an event for a person who is running for my state house representative. I will help him with his election, too. I will go door-to-door with candidates. I will write letters on local, state and national issues.
Maybe everyone is not a retired person like me. But they can take time to do one or two things a week. Call. Sign petitions. GOTV.
We need Democrats for dog catcher and county board. We need Democrats in Congress and the White House. GOTV.
I am not retired but am deeply involved in my local State Senate District to help get good candidates elected up and down the ticket.
Let's use our collective energies to GOTV. It's the only way to turn this horrible page.
"Don't boo. Vote."

destroy the RW talk radio monopoly w/market demand - it's not enough to vote, GOTV, donate.
artificial intelligence makes it easy and cheap to digitize talk radio - the ad industry will do the work once they become aware of how easy it is for activists to record, transcribe, and list advertisers with hardly any listening required.
talk radio is the only unique advantage they have and at $1000/hr 1200 stations x 15 hrs/day is worth about $5BIL/year FREE to them - and the kremlin trolls piggybacking it.. they know how important it is and democratic and media leadership clearly think it's irrelevant. ad it should not be considered part of the free speech spectrum as long as it is a well protected and coordinated monopoly. destroying the talk radio propaganda operation will help on every level, every issue, every election. and it will encourage republicans to impeach trump if they know limbaugh and sons are under attack.
it wouldn't take much activism for the ad industry to get the message it has to start asking radio ad clients if they REALLY want to support the global warming denial, racism, hate, and ignorance. advertisers will head for the hills and the monopoly will fall apart.
RW has perpetuated the myth that the monopoly is a reflection of the market demand for hate and lies ---advertisers will head for the hills and many stations will have to change programming to stay alive
and it wouldn't hurt for students and communities to start protesting anything trump at the 88+ universities that broadcast sports on 260 limbaugh stations. those schools need to be asked what they would do if the KKK bought those stations, because basically they did 20 or 30 years ago

(9,090 posts)denial, racism, and trump will destroy it. the ad industry wants those ears those stations reach and they will force those station owners to change programming if they want the advertisers. they won't want to lose those clients - with artificial intelligence to digitize it without listening it's stoprush x100

(16,616 posts)This morning I felt a little bit of that--the hearing felt anti-climactic, but I looked at it more objectively and realized this is still an amazing period and that are winning this one. I realized I hadn't slept much all week and it was probably a factor in why I was somewhat down.

(42,770 posts)allowing a crony run the law causes. It means everything and the Barr vote was pretty close. Think if we had held the Dems we only needed like 3-4? To stop it. But, he was good, minimizing that memo he wrote about protecting a president's rights. Totally underestimated that.

(59,504 posts)Also, as impeachment goes forward, public opinion is shifting. Given that a panicked Trump seems to go even further from normal Presidential behavior, that could have a huge affect.
Most Republicans are more likely cowards, afraid of Trump now -- as public opinion shifts, they may fear being connected to Trump more than they fear Trump. As to Barr, he could end up impeached even before Trump.

(143 posts)the impeachment proceedings are great news, but the fact that we are in this situation is depressing. the fact that so many Americans voted for the overt racism put forth by this scumbag is depressing. the fact that the republican party has run this platform, albeit covertly for decades is depressing. the fact that the republicans continue to support this subhuman is depressing. while Nancy Pelosi's announcement was welcome and great news, it is a sad fact that we are in this state. no true American ever wants to have to start impeachment against a president. we want our presidents to be honorable, intelligent, compassionate, in short, we want a good person to lead us.
as Malcolm Nance said a while back, it's not good news that the president is inept and corrupt. it is good news that the House is moving forward, but it is bad news that we have to take these steps.
